Spring is well and truly here, the planes are back in the sky and bringing with them an international music festival & conference; Liverpool Sound City is gracing this fair city once more. Leaf Tea Shop and Bar are very happy to present a selection of sterling showcases as part of Liverpool Sound City presenting new and raw talent. With gigs on from Wednesday 19th through to Saturday 22nd May, Leaf will be crammed full with up and coming, local and international artists ready wow the crowds with a mixture of folk, indie, rock, electronica and a multitude of other genres still to be defined!

The Writing on the Wall festival is coming to Leaf on Wednesday 12th May to showcase Blank Pages, an evening of interactive poetry, music and art installations.

So with these two fantastic festivals and all the Leaf regulars such as Make Sundays, Retro Sundays, the weekend Afternoon Tea sessions and Out of the Bedroom open mic night with Jonny Sands (which is now twice monthly on first and third Tuesday of the month) along with the launch of Leaf’s first ever bookclub; May is jam packed with spring time activities just waiting for you to get amongst!

MARVIN - is a power-trio from Montpellier (France). With only drums, guitar and korg ms20 synth they play a high-energy instrumental noise music tending to psyche or even kraut-rock. To summarize, Marvin is in the no man’s land between Shellac and Kraftwerk !

We have chosen a brilliantly beautiful and easy to read book for our first helping of the Leaf book club: The five people you meet in Heaven - Mitch Albom
Come along to discuss, debate or listen this will be a very informal and friendly club which will take place around the same time each month, dates can be flexible and can be discussed at the end of each session. We have many book ideas but are entirely open to suggestions.

Blankpages Liverpool Showcase is an evening of multimedia performance and interaction, featuring...
* Liverpool poet Cate Jacobs, a challenging and engaging reader.
* Liverpool performance poet Curtis Watt whos work focus on social and spiritual issues.
* Liverpool artist Jack Welsh will be creating site-specific found object installations within the space at Leaf.
* Music will be provided by DBH and Darren Adcock, both Manchester-based acoustic artists.
* Blankpages Poetry Editor Baiba Auria will deliver a rare reading of her poetic words.
There will be a short poetry open mic at the top of the evening so come along early and book a slot to be a part of this exciting event.

Enablers - hitting our shores once again on the way to ATP are this unique band from SF/NY/USA, blistering interlocked guitar joy around brooding spoken word narratives, with added drum magician doug scharin (june of 44/codeine/him) on drums - a new sound is emerging!

Leaf and Liverpool Sound City presents: Dead Cities / Lizzie Nunnery / Joel Plaskett / Forest City Lovers / Snailhouse

Dead Cities - formed in late 2008 and the trio have already impressed audiences with their direct and affecting approach to performance.

Lizzie Nunnery – With a voice and a talent that has won her award winning acclaim and collaborations with folk royalty. Lizzie Nunnery is one to watch for 2010.

Joel Plaskett – Canadian folk rock multi award winning legend

Forest City Lovers- Forest City Lovers spin lingering melodies amidst the crowded folk-pop realm and with a strong focus on songwriting to mass critical acclaim.

Snailhouse –

Snailhouse is an ongoing collection of songs by Montreal based artist Mike Feuerstack. Half singer-songwriter, half experimental guitar player - Feuerstack is in love with words and music and how they play together. Over the course of 5 albums and an EP, Snailhouse has earned a very loyal following all over the underground music world.

Minion TV / Chrik / DNA Orchestra / The Short Life of Gracie / The Gin Riots / The Mountains and the Trees


Minion TV – A Five piece band from Liverpool, Minion TV site their influences as post-rock/soundtrack and sound “like the musical equivalent of cresting waves and seagulls”

Chrik – With Chris on guitar and Rik on the drums this two piece from Liverpool fuse rock and indie with melodic riffs and beats to fill a whole room and encapsulate an audience

DNA Orchestra – Like a chameleon to the landscape DNA Orchestra tailor their performances to suit the venue, shifting between electro, dance driven sets as a duo, full on band performances involving a plethora of live instruments, and intimate acoustic gigs with Kate orchestrating and performing stunning selections from their repertoire with only strings, percussion and woodwind.

The Short Life of Gracie – Bristol based 4 piece are bringing their unique mix of Alternative country, rock and garage folk to the shores of Leaf.

The Gin Riots – New Wave folk Indie masters The Gin Riots are ready and raring to go for their first performance at LSC straight off the back of a fantastic showcase at SXSW.

The Mountains and the Trees – Canadian folk singer that describes himself as “Local yokel rising crust folk singer, whatever that means” Come along to make you own decision to its meaning!
