Sharp Knees - Free download of new single Dont Leave Me

Sharp Knees consist of Sam Bennett (Vocals / Guitar), Jacob Alder (Guitar/Vocals), Shane Egglestone (Bass/Vocals), Jacques Moran (Keyboard/Saxophone/Vocals) & Peter Dean (Drums/Vocals). The band spent most of 2009 working on their 10 track self-released, self-produced, album, 'Certain Rules'. The album became an instant classic within their hometown, as they began supporting the likes of Everything Everything, Hip Parade, The Kabeedies and many more across the East Midlands.

The act went on to compete in the national competition, 'Kit Kat's Battle Of The Bands', which resulted in the
quintet performing at the Grand Final in London; an event that was hosted by, reputable musician, Frankmusik. The band were awarded the opportunity of playing at the 2010 V-Festival and Reading Festival.

In late 2010, they returned to the studio to produce their new track, 'Don't Leave Me’, which was produced by Sharp Knees', Sam Bennett, in the singer's home in Leeds, UK.

Sam stated, "Although it has only been a year or so, I feel we've progressed massively in that period of time. The band has developed both on and off the stage, and a more mature side to our music has emerged. Our album didn't have this same edge, so we hope that the new EP will demonstrate what Sharp Knees is now all about".

The band are now preparing for a studio visit in August to work on their forthcoming EP.

Liverpool Sound City Premieres "Powder"

Liverpool Sound City is delighted to announce the world premiere screening of the brilliant new movie Powder, adapted from the excellent book by Liverpool’s own Kevin Sampson. In keeping with the festival’s broad remit of music, arts and cultural content, this is another great coup further consolidating LSC’s evolution.
Kevin Sampson said that, “After our brilliant collaboration for the Awaydays premiere, Red Union Films are massively looking forward to another great LSC co-production for our world first screening of Powder. With our shared passion for music, individuality, independence and Liverpool, Red Union and Liverpool Sound City are made for each other. It’s going to be a cracking night.”
Starring Liam Boyle (Awaydays), Alfie Allen (Game Of Thrones, Soulboy) and filmed at major rock festivals in the U.K, Ibiza and Spain, Powder is a thrilling, hilarious, filthy and fascinating rock ‘n roll parable. It is also a serious examination of the nature of genius. Produced by the makers of Awaydays, Powder will delight audiences worldwide.
Powder will be screening for one night only at FACT, Seel Street, on Thursday 19th May before the film goes on general release in the autumn. This is the only chance to see the movie months ahead as part of Liverpool Sound City. Places are limited, with a first-come first served free allocation for LSC delegate pass holders and a small number of tickets on sale to the general public, available from the FACT website, www.fact.co.uk. Book now to avoid disappointment.

Powder World Premiere – Thurs 19th May @ FACT
Most young bands get started for fun; to get laid; to see the world beyond your own front door. For Keva McCluskey, it’s a compulsion. He writes and performs because he has to – he has no choice. Keva isn’t interested in success – yet his paradox is that he needs to play if he’s to exorcise the demons that haunt him. In following Keva’s plight to put his ghosts to rest and make sense of the songs buried deep in his troubled soul, we take a journey to his heart of darkness and share his fears, and dreams of light at the end of the road.
Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry - Fri 20th May @ FACT
Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry is a feature length documentary exploring the roots of American tattooing through the life of its most iconoclastic figure, Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins. Considered by many the foremost tattoo artist of all time, Collins is the father of modern day tattooing, whose uncompromising lifestyle and larger than life persona made him an American legend. Through rare interviews, photographs and hours of archival footage, Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry: The Life and Times of Norman Keith Collins, explores the past, present and future of the global tattooing phenomenon.

Beats Of Freedom – Sat 21st May @ FACT
LSC also hosts Polish film Beats of Freedom or How to Overthrow a Totalitarian Regime with the Use of a Homemade Amplifier. Written by Wojciech SÅ‚ota and directed by Leszek GnoiÅ„ski, this is a captivating film about the birth and evolution of rock music in Poland. Colourful memories and surprising confessions from the country’s greatest musicians make this story memorable, as does the hard sound of Polish rock. Take a trip into a very different world that will open both your mind and ears. Beats of Freedom is not only an unforgettable music journey, but a window onto another reality, created via unique, often shocking recordings from the last 50 years.
At a time when life in Poland was controlled by the communist regime, music became a powerful phenomenon. The Iron Curtain found itself unable to stop the viceral force of rock music, allowing young people to find pockets of freedom. From the very beginning, Polish rock stood in opposition to the monolithic, overwhelming reality it faced. Songs shattered stereotypes and formed bonds among people. One particular enclave of freedom was Jarocin Festival, vividly shown in the film though freshly unearthed archival materials never before screened until now.
LSC - The UK’s Coolest Boutique Urban Festival
Already established as an epoch-breaking music, arts, cultural and multi-media extravaganza, LSC is rich in burgeoning new sounds and styles from home-grown local bands through to the most dynamic and fresh talent sourced from around the world, creating a metropolitan festival like no other. Liverpool, Europe’s 2008 Capital of Culture, has enjoyed a cultural, architectural and societal renaissance which has seen boutique shops and hotels, amazing restaurants and museums all converge and grow in the city. 2011’s LSC features the 50th anniversary exhibition of the iconic Mersey Beat newspaper as well as the return of the John Peel World Cup. There's also a full conference with global keynote speakers addressing key issues facing the music industry, and a dedicated youth programme which encourages the region's young people into all facets of the music industry, from bands to technology.
