The All Seeing Hand - Mechatronics

The All Seeing Hand - Mechatronics

The All Seeing Hand - Mechatronics

We're about to release perhaps one of the more intriguing albums as of late from October 1st; "Mechatronics", by Wellington trio The All Seeing Hand, will be out through MUZAI Records (NZ) and Tenzenman (Australia) on CD, Vinyl and worldwide on Bandcamp - perhaps earning some nods to the likes of Death Grips or, perhaps even more so in it's pure left-field nature, Aphex Twin, the group have become synonymous with the idea of avant-garde creation - much akin to the likes of Orchestra of Spheres.

The All Seeing Hand are collaborators in conversion. Sound shapes minds, and the amalgam of turntables, throat singing and drums holds potent persuasive powers. The Turntables provide a dense weaved fabric of sounds and create a subliminal future from the carcasses of redundant songs. The Throat inhales your spent breath and mumbled words, and exhales harmonic rich vocals; while you struggle to hear the language your synapses are firing new paths. The Drums resonate with your heart, then beat it irregular; while your chest collapses with pounding toms, your brain pulsates with frantic snares.

The All Seeing Hand is comprised of Alphabethead (masterful Turntablist gestated in the Hip Hop battle scene before branching into every direction at once, working everything from orchestral gamelan and Inuit folk music to post-punk and electronica into his compositions) Jonny Marks on vocals (a true sonic explorer, traditionally-trained Mongolian throat-singer and high-energy front-person) and B Michael Knight on drums (schooled in the energy of DIY punk and hardcore, tightly binding the whole sound together with driving rhythm that is equal parts chaos and precision).

These elements combine into a band of dissonant, dense beauty and intense live shows that leave observers in an ecstatic state of both wonder and confusion.

The single, Empty Hand, is currently streaming on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/muzairecords/the-all-seeing-hand-empty-road)

Perhaps, however, it's the video of their performance at Campus A Low Hum earlier this year that will strike you the most however - giving you the impression just how enigmatic the band are

The debut EP from London surf-popster Jack Shea - Coolwave - Summer's Here

The debut EP from London surf-popster Jack Shea Coolwave - Summer's Here

The debut EP from London surf-popster Jack Shea Coolwave - Summer's Here

Coolwave is the nom de guerre of Londoner Jack Shea, who's daydreams of sandy beaches, the warm afterglow at dusk and the time honored tradition of surfing have been lovingly captured with his debut 4 track EP, released digitally through Bandcamp and shortly to be on digital services including iTunes and Spotify worldwide.

Drenched in Beach Boys-esque surf pop, the incredibly optimistic, vibrant "Summer's Here" is full of nods to many New Zealand counterparts throughout the country's rich sonic history... the surprising factor is that instead of this coming out of the hallowed areas of Dunedin or the beaches of Auckland, it's a sheer coincidence that this was born in the United Kingdom. As remote to the antipodes as it is to us here down under.

From the singles "Malibu" and "Surfin'", both of which generating airplay in New Zealand, the dance-punk style opening of "Don't Cha Kno" and the eerie "Summer Moon" almost reminiscent of a haunting ballad from Twin Peaks compliment Shea's first time outing; showing a level of depth to his songwriting that makes his first full-length offering an excitable prospect in the near future. "Summer's Here!" isn't a boastful, bolt out the gates set of songs, but rather an earnest and ultimately incredible catchy series of tunes - that instantly grow on you rather than assault your senses.

Along with Serge Saint Rose, Shea's eager, youthful, exuberant mantra of "Summer's Here!" rings true with each listen - despite what season you may be encountering.

A cassette version of the EP will be released towards the end of 2013.

MusicMafiauk presents....Fort Lean

It's January 2011. There's two feet of snow on the ground. Just blocks from Brooklyn's largest garbage dump, a group of guys are huddled around a space heater in a wasted apartment above a metal shop. It looks like a place where things go to die. The view out the window reveals a strip club and a poultry slaughterhouse. Even by the standards of a city not known for its aesthetic prowess, it's a hole. It's in this primordial ooze that Fort Lean was born. Five old friends tired of the grind. This is the very beginning, but it feels like the last chance.

Having been holed up in their bunker, writing and rehearsing for the first two months of 2011, they played their early March debut in front of a sold out crowd. "Beach Holiday," "Dreams (Never Come True)," "High Definition," and "Perfect" are the band's first recordings. The results of a weekend recording session, the four songs were released for free through Bandcamp on April 13. Encapsulating both the light and dark, the songs bounce along with a frenetic energy, but the world they reference is often a place of pain and disillusion.

Since unleashing their music on the world they've been featured on top-tier blogs such as Stereogum, RCRB LBL, I Guess I’m Floating, and My Old Kentucky Blog, and have shared the stage with the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Male Bonding, Violens, Fang Island and Shark?.

They've been hard at work recording new material, sharing production duties with Ayad Al-Adhamy of Passion Pit. The band is also affiliated with Greedhead Entertainment - the label, management company, and group of dudes that hang out with each other, helmed by Himanshu Suri of Das Racist (“like Odd Future except older, fatter, and less controversial,” says guitarist Zach Fried). Additionally, the band brings a great deal of outside musical experience to the project. Bassist Jake Aron is a talented producer and audio engineer.

Frequently collaborating with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, Jake has worked with such bands as Yeasayer, Twin Shadow, CANT, and Jamie Lidell. He also plays as Lidell's touring bassist.

Drummer Sam Ubl is a former writer for popular music website Pitchfork, as well as an array of other major publications. He currently works as an elementary school teacher. The group is rounded out by frontman Keenan Mitchell, synth man/guitarist Will Runge, and guitarist Fried, who is a former touring member of Bear Hands.
