Brooklyn-based Corbu to release new single Promise Me

Brooklyn-based five-piece Corbu have announced the release of a brand new track 'Promise Me' on November 24th 2014 through 3Beat.

A smouldering concoction of dreamy symphonies and extra-terrestrial melodies, Corbu is the brainchild of frontman and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Graves. Named after the famed Swiss architect Le Corbusier, Corbu have quickly built up a reputation for crafting extensive aural soundscapes that marry lush full sounds with an introspective dream-like quality, inspired by both Graves interest in space and lucid sleep patterns.

The whole world of Corbu is further reflected through the regular imagery (all of Graves’ own creation) that appears through Corbu’s page www.neonhallway.com, and also in the carefully selected collaborations on their music videos, leading to Corbu being named as Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’ on BBC Radio One.

Extending the line-up to include Amanda Scott (synths, percussion), Todd Hoellerman (drums, keys), Julian Ferraldo (guitar, keys) and Brian Murphy (bass, keys) to translate his vision into an impressive live experience, Corbu have already won major acclaim from some of the UK's biggest tastemakers such as Radio 1’s Phil Taggart and the aforementioned Zane Lowe, as well as XFM’s John Kennedy, Mixmag, NME, DIY Magazine, Stereogum, and being featured as The Guardian’s ‘New Band of the Week’.

Corbu will release 'Promise Me' this November 24th 2014 through 3Beat.

Bridge City Hustle Releases Too Good For Me

Bridge City Hustle Releases Too Good For Me

From the heart of Brooklyn comes modern funk/soul/rock band Bridge City Hustle with their new single "Too Good For Me" from their debut self-titled EP.  Comprised of four talented and innovative musicians, songwriters, and producers, BCH is keeping funk alive with this groovy new single that attracts fans of Justin Timberlake, John Legend, and Anthony Hamilton alike.

A follow up to their first single “I Wanna Love Ya”, “Too Good for Me” features Brooklyn native Johnny Burgos on vocals and percussion, Pete O’Neill on bass, Dave Zerio on keys and drums, and Dan Cherouny on saxophone.  In his signature smooth tenor vocals, Burgos croons about a dysfunctional relationship. He sings, "You're just too good for me, I don't deserve you. You were so good to me, and all I did was hurt you." The lyrics are wrapped up in a smooth and low key guitar riff and accented by Cherouny's powerful saxophone solo.  The track has been a favorite at live shows and has been featured on NPR’s WNYC Soundcheck radio show.

Bridge City Hustle formed in the fall of 2012 and has steadily built a strong following in New York City playing venues such as Rockwood and the Knitting Factory.  All four members tout impressive resumes as producers and musicians.  Brooklyn bred lead singer, Johnny Burgos is a multifaceted producer, engineer, and songwriter, and has co-produced beats for hip-hop luminaries, such as Mobb Deep and M.O.P.  Bassist Pete O’Neill developed his distinctive fretless bass tone studying under bass legends Victor Wooten and Chuck Rainey. Pete has shared the stage with artists, such as James Brown and The Allman Brothers Band and has appeared on Mike Huckabee’s Morning Show.  Dave Zerio is the drummer/keyboardist musical virtuoso who is equal parts Steve Gadd, John Bonham, and Clyde Stubblefield. Dave studied music and audio engineering at The Hartford Conservatory and The New England Institute of Art.  Dan Cherouny is an emerging force in the world of electronic music and is equally skilled as a soloist on alto saxophone. Dan studied saxophone under Gary Thomas and also works as an engineer and producer at NYC's Flux Studios.

The band recorded their self-produced debut EP at Flux Studios in NYC’s East Village with engineer Daniel Sanint. BCH is currently headlining shows across NYC and planning an east coast tour in support of their newly released debut EP, available now on iTunes and Spotify.

MusicMafia introduces Goodbye, Labrador

Goodbye, Labrador
New EP A Thousand Times Before
Out August 6th on Dead Fisherman Records

Goodbye, Labrador, with roots in Brooklyn, Barcelona and Prague, blend stateside harmonies with distinctly European nostalgia.

Formed in 2008 in a dimly-lit bar in Barcelona's neighbourhood of Grácia, eager to create the band decided to use their shared love of early 80s punk and post-punk, to 90s art rock. They began recording demos before relocating to different cities. Later, they reunited for their first shows in Portugal, which earned them many fans.
Long distance relationships are gut-wrenchingly difficult. Producing an album long distance is something entirely different—and exponentially more challenging.

The early days proved to be quite difficult. It meant long days writing in musty rehearsal rooms and countless nights sleeping on foreign beds and couches on both sides of the Atlantic. Song ideas were traded by email, band meetings held via Skype. A great idea that was inspired at midnight in New York had to wait until the next day to be heard in Europe.

In 2010, NYC, the band recorded and produced their self-titled debut, featuring catchy vocal duets over layered guitars and mechanical rhythms. In 2011, following performances in the US and Europe, the band began work on their follow-up release in Lisbon, Portugal.

The band describes their work sessions as intense and consuming, requiring monk-like dedication. But they have grown together through these immersive experiences, forging deep friendships and a shared creative voice. When asked about what being in Goodbye, Labrador has meant to him, singer Martin Pípal simply responds, “to belong where I want to belong.”

Goodbye, Labrador are:

Martin Pípal (Guitar, Vocals)

Phil Gold (Guitar, Percussion, Vocals)

Gonçalo Hipolito Martins (Bass, Vocals)

J. M. Silverman (Drums, Percussion)

Introducing....Fast Years– Young Heart

Fast Years– Young Heart

Brooklyn four-piece Fast Years formed in the Spring of 2011. The band plays a mix of 80's Punk, Surf Pop, and Indie Garage, with influences ranging from The Sonics to The Exploding Hearts.
They’ve had an online presence for all of 3 weeks now, including a free Bandcamp giveaway of lead track ‘Young Heart’, but their impact has been immediate. The band played their first ever live show on Friday to a full house alongside the white-hot Howler and St. Lucia in Brooklyn, crept in to the Hype Machine’s top 15 list, featured on last week's New to Q, as well as having picked up the following praise:
The track goes near polar-throwback in it’s tendencies towards nostalgic Garage and Pop. Especially for those letting a renaissance of bands like The Vaccines still sink in” – blahblahblahscience
sufficient bark to their garage stomp to merit a listen” – NME Radar Tip Of The Day
Young Heart is a mile-a-minute, hook-a-plenty, good time jam that’s got us hot under the collar just now.” – Laissez Faire Club
"along the lines of Japandroids meets The Stroked meets The Vaccines – which we might broadly describe as a brilliant lo-fi sound...No doubt they will be here, there and everything sooner rather than later, but with tunes like these we’re sure as shit not complaining about it." - Killing Moon
Their debut EP is due out this spring, and until then you can hear and see more at:

MusicMafiauk presents....Fort Lean

It's January 2011. There's two feet of snow on the ground. Just blocks from Brooklyn's largest garbage dump, a group of guys are huddled around a space heater in a wasted apartment above a metal shop. It looks like a place where things go to die. The view out the window reveals a strip club and a poultry slaughterhouse. Even by the standards of a city not known for its aesthetic prowess, it's a hole. It's in this primordial ooze that Fort Lean was born. Five old friends tired of the grind. This is the very beginning, but it feels like the last chance.

Having been holed up in their bunker, writing and rehearsing for the first two months of 2011, they played their early March debut in front of a sold out crowd. "Beach Holiday," "Dreams (Never Come True)," "High Definition," and "Perfect" are the band's first recordings. The results of a weekend recording session, the four songs were released for free through Bandcamp on April 13. Encapsulating both the light and dark, the songs bounce along with a frenetic energy, but the world they reference is often a place of pain and disillusion.

Since unleashing their music on the world they've been featured on top-tier blogs such as Stereogum, RCRB LBL, I Guess I’m Floating, and My Old Kentucky Blog, and have shared the stage with the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Male Bonding, Violens, Fang Island and Shark?.

They've been hard at work recording new material, sharing production duties with Ayad Al-Adhamy of Passion Pit. The band is also affiliated with Greedhead Entertainment - the label, management company, and group of dudes that hang out with each other, helmed by Himanshu Suri of Das Racist (“like Odd Future except older, fatter, and less controversial,” says guitarist Zach Fried). Additionally, the band brings a great deal of outside musical experience to the project. Bassist Jake Aron is a talented producer and audio engineer.

Frequently collaborating with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, Jake has worked with such bands as Yeasayer, Twin Shadow, CANT, and Jamie Lidell. He also plays as Lidell's touring bassist.

Drummer Sam Ubl is a former writer for popular music website Pitchfork, as well as an array of other major publications. He currently works as an elementary school teacher. The group is rounded out by frontman Keenan Mitchell, synth man/guitarist Will Runge, and guitarist Fried, who is a former touring member of Bear Hands.
