SubSound presents KOAN Sound at Camp and Furnace Liverpool

SubSound KOAN Sound Camp and Furnace Liverpool

SubSound presents KOAN Sound at Camp and Furnace Liverpool

Fresh from their involvement with the massive Baltic Block Party in May, SubSound are back for the autumn season with their most exciting lineups to date. Saturday 18 October see's them playing host at an exciting new venue, Haus @ Camp and Furnace,to the legendary Bristolian purveyors of glitchhop and crunked up bass: KOAN Sound.

It’s strange how the end of one musical group can be exactly the sort of catalyst needed to spawn another. KOAN Sound are certainly a highly gifted example of this phenomenon. It was in 2008 that KOAN Sound emerged from the ashes of several other musical endeavours, fusing passion for electronic music with sheer musical intuition.

Since then KOAN Sound's development has been astronomical, synthesising ever more complex and inspirational patterns. And with influences such as The Prodigy, Amon Tobin and Noisia, it’s not hard to see why KOAN Sound productions and releases are synonymous with dark gripping basslines, elegantly mastered and meticulously executed. Very much evident in their current mind blowing Dynasty EP.

KOAN Sound's creative and above all original ethos has granted them well deserved credibility from producers, DJ and music fans around the globe. Armed with a creative diversity second to none, they have set themselves apart from their peers and continue to push music boundaries not restrained by tempo or genre, all connected by their trademark ‘KOAN’ sound Backing up KOAN Sound are a whole host of local hero's. First up is William Breakspear a British bass music producer who blends bass aggression with funky nuskool drums and glitchy samples to create a unique yet familiar sound. He started writing and producing with an Atari ST and Akai S950 at the age of 16, using his parent’s record collection of Rock, Soul and Reggae as inspiration. Breakspear established the brilliant Skanky Panky Records alongside Buddha from SixAM and has released a slew of successful bootlegs, original tracks and official remixes.

Starting as a DnB DJ at the tender age of 15, Horza quickly fell in love with all forms of bass music from across the world. Horza's eclectic sets have earned him slots across the UK including a spot at Outlook Festival. His stand out trademark sound is from his unwillingness to stick to a onegenre set but keeping his style purely party vibes.

A familiar face to anybody who has been to Django’s Riff on a Saturday for as long as we can remember. Coowner of Glitch Hop label Skanky Panky Records and all round nice guy, Buddha promises to bring a huge bag of floor shakin Glitch Hop to close this night off in fine style.

With a line up that crosses over between dubstep, glitchhop, drum n bass and everything inbetween expect this to be a blistering bass music jamboree.

Fytch, Captain Crunch and Carmen Forbes release Raindrops

Fytch, Captain Crunch and Carmen Forbes release Raindrops

It usually takes a little time for producers to get their heads around songs. But not Fytch. At just 16 he’s come up with the kind of songs others haven’t got near after years in the game. Alongside Captain Crunch and incredible singer of the same age Carmen Forbes they have come together to produce one of best tracks this summer will hear – Raindrops.

It’s a resounding, fluxion of orchestral pop snares, milky vocals and bass hysteria that is uplifting as it’s memorable. DC Breaks capture the charm of the original and incense it with skyrocketing whirring bass and swirling, buoyant beats that sound combined like a tropical thunderstorm at the peak of its powers. Flinch, makes it rain literally on the outset remix with a 16-bit bleating, sub level affair in the vein of Rusko whilst Dead Audio provide the bass-heavy mix which is most favoured by Borgore in his current festival sets.

And incredibly, singer Carmen Forbes is also 16 years old. Together with London dubstep master Captain Crunch – 2011 Best Breakthrough Dubstep DJ, no less – the Dutch duo have crafted something beautiful from the clash of a classic vocal with operatic flourishes and twisted dubstep keys. The record has already had support from Skream and Mistajam on BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM’s Andi Durrant.

Originally released on Israeli bass DJ/producer supremo Borgore’s Buygore imprint, Raindrops now gets a full release on Strictly Rhythm with new mixes from Flinch, Dead Audio and a storming drum and bass retune by DC Breaks.
