The Jar Family Announce New Tour Dates for 2013

The Jar Family Announce New Tour Dates for 2013

The Jar Family Announce New Tour Dates for 2013

Fresh off the back of this summer’s acclaimed second album, ‘Jarmalade’ (which arrived in August) and a recent Bonfire Night appearance in front of 11,000 people in their hometown of Hartlepool, The Jar Family return to the road in November/ December for a short run of highly anticipated live dates.

These shows, which include a free, acoustic set after the band help switch on the Xmas lights in Hartlepool on December 5th, see them returning to their hometown again on December 21st for a 1000 capacity Xmas show , their last live performance of the year.

The Jar Family were originally five individual songwriters, who decided that, rather than struggle for success in isolation, they would join forces in 2010 to pool their talent. Although on paper the idea of five very different and charismatic personalities with a wide range of musical styles working together harmoniously seems unlikely, the stunning results of their work to date speak for themselves. Taking their name from the donations jar they passed around at early gigs, the band are a tight knit group who had the foresight to realise that they were stronger collectively than they were individually.

A relentless touring schedule, which has seen the band appearing as special guests to a number of established artists such as Jake Bug, Alabama 3, Babyshambles, The Charlatans and others, has brought their raucous and engaging live show to all corners of the country. Picking up an ever-growing army of admirers as a result of this constant touring the band has now established a major fan base of fanatical supporters throughout the UK.

Full details of The Jar Family’s forthcoming tour dates below:

Nov 23rd  - Middlesbrough - Institute of Modern Art (MIMA)

Nov 28th  – Liverpool – Lomax

December 5th – Hartlepool - Xmas lights switch on – free, acoustic set

December 6th – Newcastle – Boiler Shop Steamer

Dec 13th - Marlow – The Life of Riley Club, Christchurch URC

Dec 21st  – Hartlepool – Town Hall

Review - Deep Red Sky @ The Lomax Liverpool

Review - Deep Red Sky @ The Lomax Liverpool

Review - Deep Red Sky @ The Lomax Liverpool

The wonderful Lomax in Liverpool was playing host to Scottish five-piece Deep Red Sky with support from Amidships.

Amidships are from Northern Ireland. Just outside Belfast to be exact. This superb 4 piece waste not time in settling in the people who have gathered to see them and swing effortlessly into their first track. Even when guitar problems plague them and they have to use a brand new guitar, they don't seem to be fazed and keep the audience entertained throughout. Stand out track for me was "Dover". An amazing tune which slowly builds and builds and screeching through out the guitar sounds of lead singer JP McCorley, leaving you almost gob smacked and awe inspired. Truly something I'd like to witness again.

Following Amidships must be a pretty daunting task, but Deep Red Sky managed to do this with much aplomb though i suspected they weren't happy bunnies due to the fact they came on late and only had 30 minutes in which to show their stuff.

But that 30 minutes were all I needed to spend to see that this was a band with much enthusiasm and gusto. Lead singer , Jamie Craighead , going off like a hot coiled spring every time the song kicked in. With a cover of MGMT's "Control" being showcased as their new single it showed the band was able to take something unique and make it their own without diminishing the original. The band show great potential but at times they weren't as tight as Amidships and seemed to lose concentration from time to time. But apart from that, the short set left me wanting to see more of them and I feel on a bigger stage, Jamie could really go nuts!

The only drawback to the whole night was the low turn out for what was indeed 2 great bands, in a great venue. But as they say...their loss not ours.

Single review - The Greeting Committee - Show me the lights of home

The Greeting Commitee

Single review - The Greeting Committee - Show me the lights of home

Once upon a time there where six little boys from Newcastle. They decided to get together because they were the getting together type. When they were together they wondered what for after all, what for? So all of a sudden they grew some guitars and formed a noise.

The single starts off slowly, first initial reaction to it was that it was very Stone roses (which is not a bad thing). The Lead singers vocals are clear, crisp with a slight edge to it that you can hear slink through at times but sounding a little too much like Liam Gallagher at times. The track has a slow build to it, culminating in a glorious crescendo of sound which makes it quite anthemesque in its delivery. The grinding guitar scratching its way through alongside the powerful drum beats. The psychedelic sound throughout providing a good accompaniment to the build up.

I think this will appeal to a lot of old school brit-poppers but standing on its own with its lyrics and musical approach and it definitely entices you to see them live and see where it can go.

Preview of the Snub festival 2 at the Lomax Liverpool

Preview of the Snub festival 2 at the Lomax Liverpool

In the current climate of pay to play, pay to apply and voting systems for gig slots, we, in conjunction with WIRELESS MAGAZINE (https://www.facebook.com/wirelessmagazine?sk=wall), will be providing a non-judgemental outlet for local talent!

Let’s stop the fighting amongst the bands. Let’s unite and bring camaraderie to the arts scene instead of bands fighting amongst ...themselves for a mediocre slot not even their mothers can be bothered to get out of bed for. And let’s face it, if you wanted to take part in a voting system, you’d have auditioned for X-Factor.

With the sad closure of The Masque and The CUC, plus live music events ceasing at Mojo, Liverpool's music scene has been rocked . We want to champion local artists and give fans value for money.
We have the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of every month booked at the mighty Lomax and will be charging no more than £3 entry.

We launch Thursday 2nd Feb kicking off with Metal Snub. The Day Will Come, Hollow Dreams, Scare Tactics and Hope Against Hope will be each bringing something a little bit different. Mixes of old school, tech, post hardcore and modern metal will all be on show. Oceanis take the role of headliners, but I don't think any of the bands playing would look out of place topping the bill.

Friday 3rd Feb will see our Indie/Alt Snub show commence. The Temps, White Heat, The Fall Of Kings, Kush and Deltasonic's Sonic Faith are bands that are hard to pigeon hole but impossible to ignore. I think they all incorporate epic rock, indie and pop perfectly.

And finally comes our Rock Snub, Sunday 5th Feb. Local hero’s Guardians (formally Hippys on the hill) will be bringing their fiery brand of high voltage rock, whilst headliners Always The Quiet Ones always ensure a frenetic live show. We Were Beautiful draw influence from every corner of the music industry and have already supported the likes of Deaf Havana and Lower Than Atlantis, whilst The Blackhand, having recently released their debut album 'Greetings, From The Bitter Sweet Edge' shouldn't be missed. The last band joining are Arkadiance, bringing their impressive, progressive rock.

Former Masque night Snub 2 february shows announced for Lomax Liverpool

Snub 2 february shows announced for Lomax Liverpool

Earlier this month the sad news that the Masque Theatre in Liverpool was closing was unleashed upon us from nowhere. This was a shock to the system for most people in the city and for the artists that played there. Luckily from the ashes comes a Phoenix. The much loved Snub Festival, which allowed new acts to experience playing live, has been revived. Now in the charge of former Masque PR Gemma Smith, we are proud to announced SNUB 2

This will be put on 3 nights a month at The Lomax with Wireless mag
The first shows for the new year have already been announced and we are sure that the support SNUB Festival received will carry across to this new established night. So make sure to show your support for this and get along to some of the shows in February 2012
Our first shows will be;
2nd Feb - Metal ft Oceanis, Hollow Dreams, The Day Will Come, Entropy and more.
3rd Feb - Indie ft The Temps, White Heat and more.
5th Feb - Rock/Alt ft Guardians, ATQO and more.
