The Handsome Family announce UK and Ireland Tour

The Handsome Family UK and Ireland Tour

The Handsome Family announce UK and Ireland Tour

21 years and 9 albums into their career, Brett and Rennie Sparks, otherwise known as The Handsome Family, finally got their reward for their genius songwriting and ceaseless touring. In early 2014 T Bone Burnett chose their 2003 song ‘Far From Any Road’ as the theme tune to the soon to be cult HBO TV series True Detective. The song has now had over 5 million YouTube views and, as a result, the band have been playing sold out across Europe, Australia and the USA. March 2015 will see The Handsome Family play an extensive tour of Ireland and the UK. Tickets for all shows go on sale today.

The Handsome Family to play sold out show in London next week

The Handsome Family sold out show London

The Handsome Family to play sold out show in London next week

The Handsome Family have been feted by the likes of Ringo Starr and covered by artists such as Jeff Tweedy, Cerys Matthews, Christy Moore and Andrew Bird. In a career that spans twenty years they've toured the world in their own charmingly DIY fashion - one car, one hotel room, one stage.... night after night after night - and in that time they've performed as a duo, with a band and have had onstage collaborations with such folk-royalty as Eliza Carthy, country legend Charlie Louvin and indie-kings like Nick Cave and Jarvis Cocker. In each and every instance they've more than held their own, thanks in the main to their songs - a series of unique and wondrous compositions that, as Jeff Tweedy once said, are the “product of two beautiful brains”.

Following an extensive European tour earlier in the year to support their latest album 'Wilderness', The Handsome Familly return to London for a sold-out London show at Islington Assembly Hall on Wednesday 29th October 2014.

2014 has been a big year for The Handsome Family, with their track 'Far From Any Road' being chosen for the main title sequence of cult HBO series 'True Detectives'.

Wild animals, tall tales, and folk-lore from American history populate Wilderness - the latest studio album from New Mexico's Handsome Family, released on Loose Music. Recorded at home in Albuquerque and at the Wilco Loft in Chicago it's a record that found husband & wife duo Brett and Rennie Sparks blending Appalachian holler, psych-rock and Tin Pan Alley inspired melodies to conjure up a world where David Attenborough meets David Lynch in a Honky-Tonk bar at midnight.

Merry Christmas from Harvest Sun

A few Christmas words from Harvest sun and news on more gigs for 2012

Right before we go any further we would just like to thank anyone who attended any of our gigs over the past 12 months in any shape or form, sober or straight, we salute you and would like to wish you a very merry Christmas.  We've had some great shows from early in the year with Gruff Rhys in February to the journey Wooden Shjips took us on at the Kazimier in September then onto Roddy Frame and Other Lives a month or so back.

The year isn't all over music-wise though, we've got a cracking New Years Party at The Static Gallery, a class of 2012 if you will.  It's gonna be a cracker.  We have
Loved Ones, The Sundowners, Endeci, It's Murder Beams, Grand Lunar and Cantmixwontmixshdntmixdontmix DJ's keeping the disco going long into the night.  Tickets only £6 from Probe Records and ticketline RIGHT NOW.

Now for the nitty gritty, since our last mail out we've added some great new shows to our 2012 fixture list.  These are
Cass McCombs, Veronica Falls, High Places, Diagrams, Lindo Ortega, Phantom Limb and Harvest Sun all timers, The Handsome Family.

Most of these should all appear at least once in everyone's collection.  If not, re-write that Christmas list cos every one is worth checking out.  Take Lindi Ortega for instance, a relatively unknown Country singer from Canada; well she's just beaten the likes of
Fucked Up, Chilly Gonzalez and Timber Timbre to the #1 Canadian album of the year over at Snob Music.  High praise indeed.

We could go on all day, but there isn't any sign of a dud in them there gigs.  Here they all are here...
