Be Like Pablo unveil quirky video for The Post-It Song
From a quiet town in rural Scotland blasts the sound of jubilantly nerdy rock as the loveable powerhouse of pop that is Be Like Pablo release their new single on 2 June 2014 – double A-side The Post-It Song/Julianne.
As charming as they are talented, the band of unassuming schoolteachers from Forres will have you tapping your feet and cracking a smile with these two stonking tunes full of charisma and quirky instrumentation from their debut album The New Adventures.
Be Like Pablo stamp their own high-spirited character on the sounds they love to hear – from ‘60s classic pop to ‘90s guitar bands – and have been described by NME as “quirky Scottish indie-rock in the style of a particularly giddy Weezer”.
Raised on a diet of Motown, surf rock and AC/DC the Watson brothers, Ewen and Ross, joined forces with the current line-up – childhood friends Karen Johnston, Jamie Murphy and Andrew Stepien – in 2013. Now they’re on a mission to bring the sound of latterday powerpop and a healthy dose of nerd to ears all over the world.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t land them in detention, though on this occasion it feels like two A stars all round, so nothing to worry about there! So throw open your windows, embrace your inner geek and let Be Like Pablo give you a lesson in just how catchy classic pop can be.
The Post-It Song, which songwriter Ewen admits is mainly about being a bit awkward, is full of the boy/girl harmonies, catchy hooks and synths that Be Like Pablo have made their distinctive trademark. This is an upbeat pop record with surprisingly thoughtful lyrics about love, being afraid of taking risks and, well, stationery.
With Julianne, Be Like Pablo deliver a searing ‘60s-style love anthem that will have you singing along with a smile on your face for days. A fun and Moog-filled track about a girl everyone’s in love with, Julianne was absolutely born for the radio waves with its bright harmonies and guitars in overdrive.
True to their namesake – the bands’ Chilean friend Pablo – and his sense of adventure, Be Like Pablo will be hitting the road to promote their single on tour this summer. They’ve even bought a van.
They’ve got a full tank of gas, half a packet of space raiders, it’s dark… and they’re wearing Star Wars t-shirts. Hit it.
