Off the back of their much loved EP 'Specks', Sleepy Tea have returned with the release of a music video for their latest single 'Silver Birds'. Premiering last week on Tone Deaf, the clip has been welcomed with a warm reception, being described as, "A lesson in stunning cinematography and storytelling". Adding to the euphoria of the band's dream pop sound is Hamish Rutherford who directed the reverse time-lapse visuals which required lead singer Tom Wearne to re-learn the lyrics to the song backwards. 

Following a successful single launch at Brisbane's The Bearded Lady, 'Silver Birds' will act as the band's final hoorah before heading back into the studio to produce a follow up to 2014's 'Specks'.

Sydney artist Penelope Austin releases single and video for Trigger

Penelope Austin was born in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales and moved to her spiritual home, New York City in 2006 with a guitar and a hundred and fifty dollars in her jeans.

Austin wrote her first song at fifteen with a guitar stolen from her high school.

It was the year her mother passed and the young singer went to America for the first time. Finding herself in the desolate and alien landscapes of Oklahoma, travel marked the years that followed and she continued to compose, her guitar rambling with her throughout the world and even backstage on tour with the Rolling Stones through South America.

A true nomad at heart, this ethereal sense of Other begins with her voice. Delicate and raw, vulnerable and passionate, Austin’s vocal stretches into an invented landscape populated by elemental images: fire, flames, clouds and water.

Austin has just put the finishing touches on her debut album, produced by long time collaborator and writing partner, Robert Conley. The album was mixed by award-winning and renowned UK mix engineer, Cenzo Townshend (Florence and The Machine, George Ezra, Snow Patrol), due for release late 2015. Her intro single ‘Dynamite’ featuring up-and-coming rapper Baro stirred blog attention, with a bright, glittery video clip shot in LA introducing her natural swagger. ‘Trigger’ is the next taste of what’s to come, an addictive single written and shot in NYC with a seductive lyric that just keeps on coming…

The video for ‘Trigger’ was shot with a low budget in NYC directed by A-list commercial and video director, Caitlin Felton and edited by her husband, Whitehouse post editor, Barney Miller. Caitlin is a renowned TV commercial director, who started her career as a director for MTV in New York.  Barney is  an MTV award nominated director and editor. Barney has worked on videos for artists and directors as far ranging as Kanye West, Fat Boy Slim, Elvis Costello and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  

Following the release of her single Dynamite featuring Baro, Penelope Austin was invited to showcase at the 2015 APRA Music Awards where she performed on stage with Thief and M-Phazes, covering Kasey Chambers and Bernard Fanning’s ‘Bittersweet’ to critical acclaim.

Garbage Share New Music Video for Record Store Day Release "The Chemicals" 

In celebration of this year's Record Store Day, Garbage has released a music video for "The Chemicals" featuring Brian Aubert of Silversun Pickups. Mashable premiered the video yesterday alongside a Q+A with frontwoman Shirley Manson.

Directed by Sophie Muller, the clip showcases the raw energy of a raucous punk club. Describing the inspiration for the video, Manson commented, "We've always been talking about the beauty of small punk clubs. We were sort of rueing with the loss of a lot of those clubs that Sophie and I grew up in - that sort of sweaty excitement and the sensuality that comes when you cram people in such a tiny space."

Garbage will release the song on a two track fluorescent orange 10" vinyl through their own Stunvolume label at select independent retailers this Saturday, April 18. Head HERE to find a participating record store.

Sam Smith has released a stunning video to accompany his newest single "Lay Me Down" released through Capitol Records on 15th March. The striking video opens as Sam Smith stands at the head of a church for a funeral service, as the chorus approaches the camera pans to the back of the church and the setting becomes a wedding as Sam is getting married before finally closing as Sam sits, alone with his words in the empty pews. In the video, the California songbird brings “I Will Be There” to life vividly on screen. Natalie McCool, one of the most well respected singer-songwriters to emerge recently, has announced the upcoming release of her second single this year. ‘Dig It Out’ will surely build upon the plaudits and momentum that previous single ‘Wind Blows Harder’ cultivated, which garnered praise from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Clash, NME, Nylon, Pigeons and Planes, The Sunday Times and Indie Shuffle.

McCool boasts the very finest musical background, graduating from the highly prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) with top honours. Their music is like an Irvine Welsh purgatory dream state. Netil articulate their own brand of sedative Post-Punk - a sound so unique that they could be the pioneers of their very own subgenre, dubbed Valium-gaze. The London based 4-piece release their moreish single ‘Sweet Teeth’ this September 29th.

They’ve known each other since their early teens, playing in various outfits and cutting their teeth on the London live circuit. Now all-grown-up and in their twenties, the band spent a year and a half working their evenings away in Hackney’s Netil House (to which they owe their moniker). The result of these midnight song-weaving sessions is a formidable fender wielding 4-piece, ready to intoxicate the industry with their unique brand of tormented alt-rock.

Netil fuse My Bloody Valentine delirium soundscapes, anguish-ridden drone bass, and an affected musical panache tantamount to a male Warpaint. It’s an unstoppable sonic angst that’s so hypnotically captivating, and it’ll make zealous Netil-heads of all of us.

Dublin born Eoin Glackin releases music video for Pretty Girl

Growing up on Dublin’s northside, the young Eoin Glakin became infatuated with the art of passing on stories through music; a passion that led him to the songbooks of Dylan, Springsteen, The Beatles and many more of folk and rock’s great ones, much to the amusement of his classmates, who were wrapped up in the ever divisive “Oasis or Blur” argument.

Self-taught on the piano and later the guitar, he began songwriting and busking at the age of 15, dipping in and out of various school bands. It was one of his heroes, the peripatetic Kris Kristofferson, who gave him the inspiration he needed to seriously pursue his music career. Believing "you couldn't be a songwriter and stay home", Eoin left Ireland at 21 and moved to London with a box of demos under his arm and a determination to play every pub and venue he could.

Industry heads soon got excited and the result was his first album, “Not Lost”, which was produced by the much-admired Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers, The Clash, Beth Orton).

The stunning debut dealt with themes of dislocation, isolation, fear and ultimately hope, with the album closing on the rousing mantra “everything can work out fine”. In 2011, Sony Ireland put the record out in his native land.

Along with his new EP, the highly-acclaimed “Rain Finally Came” will now be released for the first time in the UK, having previously only been available in Ireland. Eoin regards “Rain Finally Came” as a pivotal point in his musical career - the record where he really found his path.

The Chainsmokers' “Kanye” first premiered yesterday on Yahoo! Music, and its cinematic narrative picks up where the music video for the duo’s platinum-selling single “#SELFIE” left off. However, this time around, Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall tell an inspirational and invigorating Cinderella story of embracing who you are and owning it. The only proper verb for that action is “Kanye”. Moreover, notable influencers ranging from Mahogany Lox to Romeo Lacoste and Teala Dunn make spirited cameos in the video, making it a true event for the New York electronic dance music upstarts.

BuzzFeed first premiered “Kanye” last month, and it immediately drew a flurry of positive critical and fan reactions in addition to features from People Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, and more. MTV News claimed, “Stakes were high for whatever Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart  released to follow their first massive and ubiquitous hit, and ‘Kanye’ holds up,”Billboard described it as “an unexpectedly inspirational ode to following your own path and living life on your own tours,” and Yahoo! News said, “At the heart of the release is a message that encourages fans to take control of self-identity.”

As soon as “Kanye” dropped, the song became the “Most Viral Track” on Spotify in the United States and worldwide.

Los Angeles’ Living Dead Lights release Follow music Video

Los Angeles’ Living Dead Lights have premiered the new music video for their song “Follow”

It’s the second single off the band’s latest album, ‘Black Letters,’ released earlier this year. The band, signed to European label GB Sound, is planning a tour of Europe and more this fall.

To promote the release, the band is using a popular “Follow Friday” type campaign on Twitter. Fans who push the @revolvermag premiere link, and tweet the band a comment on the video @LDLfans using the hash tag #LDLfollow can get custom shout-outs from the band, music, tees, and more.

Goodbye Chanel release the new video for Foreva

Goodbye Chanel have revealed the video for ‘Foreva’ – taken from their recently released second EP, ‘Hot City Nights’. The EP was released via Dead Young Records and followed 2013’s debut, ‘Through Night To Paradise’, with the band gaining praise from as far a field as Japan and garnering early interest from the likes The Line Of Best Fit, Dummy Magazine, The 405 and DIY Magazine.

Originally founded by Scott Johnson, Goodbye Chanel quickly became the fully established five-piece band that it is today with the addition of Giuseppe De Luca on vocals and guitar, Adam Taylor on bass, Sean Goodchild on guitar and Graham Robson on drums. Crafting their own brand of multi layered vocal hooks and manifesting a world of melancholic angst with accessible pop melodies and lyrical nostalgia, Goodbye Chanel excel at  producing songs that evoke a shimmering halcyon days.

Nina Persson releases New Video for Food For The Beast

Nina Persson, singer and songwriter of iconic Swedish group The Cardigans, is thrilled to announce the release of her new music video "Food For The Beast". Premiered on Stereogum, the video is now also on YouTube (see below)

"Food For The Beast" has established itself as a fan favourite both live and as a highlight on her debut solo album, Animal Heart. The video was made in Sweden and directed by Swedish director Tomas Melinder. 

"The video for 'Food For The Beast' was made by these amazing people at Top Dollar in my home town Malmo. A great example of how creativity and imagination can't be bought", espouses Nina.

"Animal Heart" is out now on Lojinx in Europe.

New official video from Life and new UK tour dates

LIFE are four boys from Hull are already known for their Beat-yoof words and hooky punk riffs, but ‘Take Off With You’ pushes things to the deeper and darker realms of pop in a blazing track that is their most anthemic yet. With its cool-n-sweet lyrics atop a driving groove, the song builds and breaks into a delirious epic of a tune.

Following up their AA-side release, ‘Money’/’Crawling’ on Birthday Records back in March, and with praise and plays from Zane Lowe, Jen and Ally on Radio 1, Steve Lamacq on 6Music and Geoff Lloyd on Absolute, LIFE are currently in the middle of a string of UK dates.
