Young Romance to release their new single, Never Learn

Young Romance new single, Never Learn

Young Romance to release their new single, Never Learn

Formed in 2013, Young Romance is a London based Noise Pop duo comprising of Claire (Vocal and Drums) and Paolo (Guitar). Their sound however eclipses the boundaries of ‘duo’ with big fuzzy backdrops and soaring vocals.

After early shows supporting Mystery Jets, Slow Club and Summer Camp, 2014 saw the band self-release their critically acclaimed 7" 'Pale' via the Banquet Records imprint. In the Spring of 2014 Young Romance were invited to be part of the Dot to Dot Festival tour, and a run of UK shows supporting The Heartbreaks along with several London shows culminating with an appearance at KOKO for Club NME.

March 2015 saw the band release their four track 'Wild' EP produced by Simon “Barney” Barnicott who has previously worked with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Peace, Cloud Control, O. Children, Suede and Bombay Bicycle Club. With the first single 'Wasting Time' receiving praise from the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy (XFM) and BBC Introducing. The band joined Finnish indie rockers Satellite Stories on their European tour with shows in Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Austria.

May sees Young Romance perform at the BBC Introducing stage at The Great Escape Festival, before playing their first London headline show at The Waiting Room on May 20th. May will culminate with the bands US debut as they head stateside for the New York Pop Fest. To coincide with these shows, the band will release their new single ‘Never Learn’ on May 25th.

MusicMafia presents London four piece Citizens

London four piece Citizens first turned heads with the dancefloor-ready indie pop contained in their gem of a debut ‘Here We Are’. Now having returned with Phoenix collaborator Laurent d’Herbecourt on production duties for upcoming sophomore album ‘European Soul’, the group look set to rise to their rightful place as indie superstars.

With the new record awash with melody, fusing the format of European pop with the testifying emotion and textures of American soul, there is no better example of the group’s signature sound than their recently released single ‘Lighten Up’ performed here as part of Original Penguin Plugged In Sessions.

The Wonder Stuff announce Christmas shows Sleigh The UK

The Wonder Stuff are back for Christmas, but this year they’ll be doing things a little differently. ‘Sleigh The UK’ has been as welcome during the festive season as a hot cup of mulled wine, but this December, the Stuffies return to play a handful of very special acoustic shows in London, Oxford, Birmingham and Newcastle. These performances will see Miles Hunt, Erica Nockalls and newest member Dan Donnelly play tracks from the length and breadth of the band’s extensive back catalogue.

Throughout the past 28 years, The Wonder Stuff have remained at the top of their game and play with more passion and attitude than most bands could dream of.  In recent years they have headlined festivals and toured the world, pleasing an army of loyal fans and welcoming new followers, captivated by the band’s charismatic live performance.

Frontman Miles Hunt explains: “Erica, Dan and myself just couldn't refuse the opportunity to come and have a seasonal ‘knees up’ with you. The three of us will be hitting the road in December, performing all of your favourite Wonder Stuff tunes acoustically.

The Wonder Stuff have had an amazing journey so far; seven albums, exciting spin-off projects and collaborations and now there’s even a book of Miles’ musings and a personal view of the band’s ups and downs between 1986-89. For full details, please visit: www.thewonderstuff.bigcartel.com.

So before you get sick of turkey (mince pies and your relatives), come and join The Wonder Stuff for some seriously good live music this Christmas.

Paper Aeroplanes reveal video for new single Guessing Game

Paper Aeroplanes video new single Guessing Game

Paper Aeroplanes reveal video for new single Guessing Game

Last year Paper Aeroplanes took their stunning concoction of Dream-Pop to over one hundred venues, selling out at London's Bush Hall as well as many other venues across the UK and Germany. Their 2013 album Little Letters, an album of evocative, honest and personal songs, reached number 26 in the independent chart to a barrage of acclaim from critics and fans alike.

"Their latest single ‘Guessing Game’ presents the duo’s knack for an enchanting arrangement, as the riff sparkles over the padding beat. Vocally, it stirs up an emotional charge, adding an unexpected power to the stunning melody."

The video shows Sarah, guitarist Rich and a gaggle of male dancers covered in a floury substance. The song is about how difficult it is to let go of a difficult relationship. John Bland the director depicted this with a video about "how we can’t ever seem to shake off the dust and imperfections of life and the difficulties that go with it, however hard we try".

In November, Paper Aeroplanes will embark on a tour of Ireland followed by an almost sold out headline show at Union Chapel to promote their forthcoming album JOY. Produced by Mason Neely, the album is poised for release in early 2015 followed by a 6-week tour of UK and Europe with their five-piece band.

The Handsome Family to play sold out show in London next week

The Handsome Family have been feted by the likes of Ringo Starr and covered by artists such as Jeff Tweedy, Cerys Matthews, Christy Moore and Andrew Bird. In a career that spans twenty years they've toured the world in their own charmingly DIY fashion - one car, one hotel room, one stage.... night after night after night - and in that time they've performed as a duo, with a band and have had onstage collaborations with such folk-royalty as Eliza Carthy, country legend Charlie Louvin and indie-kings like Nick Cave and Jarvis Cocker. In each and every instance they've more than held their own, thanks in the main to their songs - a series of unique and wondrous compositions that, as Jeff Tweedy once said, are the “product of two beautiful brains”.

Following an extensive European tour earlier in the year to support their latest album 'Wilderness', The Handsome Familly return to London for a sold-out London show at Islington Assembly Hall on Wednesday 29th October 2014.

2014 has been a big year for The Handsome Family, with their track 'Far From Any Road' being chosen for the main title sequence of cult HBO series 'True Detectives'.

Wild animals, tall tales, and folk-lore from American history populate Wilderness - the latest studio album from New Mexico's Handsome Family, released on Loose Music. Recorded at home in Albuquerque and at the Wilco Loft in Chicago it's a record that found husband & wife duo Brett and Rennie Sparks blending Appalachian holler, psych-rock and Tin Pan Alley inspired melodies to conjure up a world where David Attenborough meets David Lynch in a Honky-Tonk bar at midnight.

Basheba drops her video for Hold On, from the upcoming EP Bad Friends, Good Enemies

NW London vocalist Basheba is back with another darkly lyrical dance record and hard hitting music video. 2014 has been a big year for Basheba. Perfecting her sound since the age of 14,Basheba combines dark, blues influenced vocals with hard-edged drum and bass beatsso it’s no wonder that the likes of Rudimental and Lyracis have already asked to work with her on their album projects. A creative through & through, watch out for her own clothing brand launching in 2015.

Get Ready To Go Crazy For The Kut's I Want You Maniac

The Kut I Want You Maniac

Get Ready To Go Crazy For The Kut's I Want You Maniac

London's Basement Rock Trio The Kut have unveiled that they will be releasing a Halloween single on Monday October 20th. Entitled 'I Want You Maniac', the track was produced by James LeRock Loughrey (Skindred / White Zombie / Sonic Boom Six / My Vitriol). I Want You Maniac is an upbeat, grunge fused horror-rock track with a suitably spooky themed supporting video.

Vocalist Maha commented that:
We’ve always wanted to put out a Halloween single, it’s always been our rock Christmas, and I Want You Maniac was the right track for us to celebrate it with... It’s been awesome working with James in the studio again, and the video was a lot of fun to make as well… We envisioned it as a zombie version of pet cemetery, it’s a bit scary

The band will also be playing a headliner at the suitably named Black Heart, Camden on November 4th in aid of the single's release. This will follow their newly confirmed slot on Camden's Nightmare Festival on November 1st and their Halloween date at The Lincoln Imp, Scunthorpe on October 31st.

-'I Want You Maniac' is out 20th October
-‘Make Up' was released via Criminal Records on 18th August 2014

Vaults Debut New Single Vultures

London three-piece VAULTS recently premiered their new single "Vultures" on Nylon.com. You can take a listen to the song here.

The track will be included on their forthcoming Vultures EP [Republic Records] out digitally at iTunes and all online partners starting November 9th.

As soon as "Vultures" debuted, it stirred up unanimous press praise and acclaim. Nylon claimed VAULTS have "already earned their place as a band to watch" and that "this is just the beginning for the London-based trio", while Stereogum described the track as "one of those songs that sounds as big as the sky, a pulsating, dramatic widescreen epic". My Old Kentucky Blog dubbed it a "precisely crafted pop-tune with full intention to connect to the masses".

Moreover, other tastemakers have raved about the group. NME called them "a band with the whiff of big things ahead. Better get used to hearing it", Earmilk extolled them as "Dark pop at its finest", and Consequence of Sound wrote, "VAULTS seem to have struck gold".

"Vultures" takes flight on haunting synth reverberations and elegant, eloquent, and entrancing vocals. Its magnificent melody belies its depth and darkness. The EP also features "Poison", "Mend This Love", and more, showcasing multiple facets of this alternative pop enigma.

VAULTS first emerged at the end of 2013 with their viral single "Cry No More". They built an incredible following online in D.I.Y. fashion and scored a deal with Virgin/EMI in the UK. During late 2014, they signed with Republic Records in the United States.

Vultures lands on November 9.

Nick Harper announces autumn UK Tour

Nick Harper autumn UK Tour

Nick Harper announces autumn UK Tour

Fri 24 Oct – MANCHESTER Ruby Lounge
Sat 25 Oct – LIVERPOOL Leaf
Sun 09 Nov – LONDON Borderline
Tickets available from www.glasswerk.co.uk

Glasswerk presents folk legend Nick Harper on his autumn tour, stopping off in Manchester, Liverpool and London.

Nick was born in London and raised in Wiltshire. Having played the guitar from the age of 10 and surrounded by the likes of Keith Moon, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Dave Gilmour as he grew up, it was no surprise when Nick made his recording debut on his father, Roy Harper’s, Whatever Happened to Jugula? in 1985.

Nick's talent and energy entranced Roy's fans and it was inevitable that he would begin touring and recording in his own right. The 1994 EP Light at the End of the Kennel was swiftly followed by his powerful 1995 debut long player Seed prompting The Independent to describe him as "hugely talented".

After 6 studio albums, a double live CD and 2 EPs, Nick’s work is still as fresh and vital as that of his first solo release in 1994. The recently released sixth studio album, Miracles For Beginners, is a return to a more stripped-down acoustic based style, from the folk tale of the meeting of King Henry 8th and Francis 1st in 1520 in The Field Of The Cloth Of Gold. to a beautiful latin tinged paean to the the Bolivian President Evo Morales in Evo. But, as with his highly personal 2004 “family album” Blood Songs, he still has time to sing about the most important things in his world – family, friends, love, life.

Nick hit the iTunes no. 1 spot with his single Blue Sky Thinking taken from the album Miracles For Beginners. All proceeds from the single were donated to the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Nick has just returned from Nepal after setting a new world record for the highest gig on earth at Kala Pattar above Mt. Everest Base Camp on October 21st, whilst helping raise over £200,000 for the fight against cancer, before going on to play as part of the Love Hope Strength all-star band to approximately 20,000 people in Kathmandu.

A busy 2013 saw Nick on a major UK solo tour in support of his 8th studio album Riven. An epic recording with legendary producer Tchad Blake at the helm. Nick has also found time to play on new recordings with Lana Del Rey, Newton Faulkner and Steven Wilson this year, via his 6th appearance at Glastonbury Festival whilst also running his own charity concert in deepest Wiltshire in August - Devil's Den

Netil release new video for Sweet Teeth

Their music is like an Irvine Welsh purgatory dream state. Netil articulate their own brand of sedative Post-Punk - a sound so unique that they could be the pioneers of their very own subgenre, dubbed Valium-gaze. The London based 4-piece release their moreish single ‘Sweet Teeth’ this September 29th.

They’ve known each other since their early teens, playing in various outfits and cutting their teeth on the London live circuit. Now all-grown-up and in their twenties, the band spent a year and a half working their evenings away in Hackney’s Netil House (to which they owe their moniker). The result of these midnight song-weaving sessions is a formidable fender wielding 4-piece, ready to intoxicate the industry with their unique brand of tormented alt-rock.

Netil fuse My Bloody Valentine delirium soundscapes, anguish-ridden drone bass, and an affected musical panache tantamount to a male Warpaint. It’s an unstoppable sonic angst that’s so hypnotically captivating, and it’ll make zealous Netil-heads of all of us.

They’ll also be launching their single at the first of their very own curated nights at the Marquis of Lansdowne, Dalston on September 27th. ‘Sweet Teeth’ will be released as a limited run of 300 hand-painted 7” vinyl records two days later on September 29th.

MusicMafia presents London Electronic artist Kole lyra

Many artists attempt to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different styles like clothing, looking to see what fits. But there are others that appear complete, in full direction of their craft, identity and music. Kole lyra fits firmly in the latter category. His new album is an exciting and captivating debut that heralds the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent, one whose music feels familiar in the best possible way, while striking out into exciting new territory.

Kole Lyra is an Electronic recording artist from Islington, London. Growing up he played piano, developed as a guitarist, bassist and vocalist. He explains, "I've always wrote songs in my head, and it took my interest in music to another level. I used all the instruments I could play as a platform to develop my art, then I started singing to broaden my horizons even more." Almost immediately, he began recording his own music and playing local bars and venues, going through what he calls, “the typical post-high school lifestyle.” “I wasn’t interested in anything I was doing other than music, and I loved the wide-openness of my life.

Kole creates a world immersed in all things charmingly electronic, with lyrical content mixing non-fiction, alluring imagery and integral narratives with a musical philosophy of distinct melodies. With influences Including, Everything Everything, Imagine Dragons, Arial Pink and Crystal Fighters his sound is an eclectic, electric and commercial proposition. Kole explains, "I've always had an intrigued ear for the latest sounds, using my past musical experience and knowledge to push the boundaries of what's possible today."

Tunecore is the aggregator with whom Kole has a publishing deal, the self titled studio album was released independently in November 2013 and is currently available to buy trough over twenty online distributors including Itunes, Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon, Google Play, Xbox Music, Deezer, Rhapsody and MediaNet. From the opening notes of “Tropical Heights,” the album’s first single, one hears that combination of melodic irresistibility and lyrical incisiveness that are becoming Kole's hallmarks. “The song is about a friend of mine - always singing sixties songs!”

Kole notes, “But the vibe of it - 'Britpop meets Drum and Bass’ wraps up for me the way it felt standing around a record player when I was growing up.”

Fans have the chance to listen to free singles which are released on the Kole Lyra website www.kolelyra.com along with news, upcoming shows, photos, artwork and contact information. Kole has headlined such venues as the 100 club, Koko and supported acts during the O2 Wireless festival in Hyde park as well as embarking on American tours. Facebook is a dynamic part of the Kole Lyra media presence on the web with a growing number of followers keeping up to date with the latest news, singles, shows and artwork. Kole uses Twitter and Soundcloud to engage information regarding new releases, artwork and shows as well as keeping in contact with promoters and fans.

Kole is currently in the studio recording new singles, honing his unique sound. "it's gaining momentum,” Kole says. “With the recordings, we’re getting exciting - there’s a lot of off the cuff stuff that’s happening. Recording and playing shows all the time is something I’ve always wanted.” And on the debut album, Kole is playing his songs precisely the way he’s always wanted, creating a fully realized album that is the culmination of where he’s been and where he’s going, and one that is sure to win him the notoriety that is demanded by the depth and quality of his songs.

Maria Evangelou new single Mr Right

Maria Evangelou announces upcoming new single Mr Right

Maria Evangelou is a songwriter and performer, and is currently based in London. Having been introduced to music from an early age, she decided to follow that path full-time as a way to express her artistic lifestyle and personality.

Maria’s upcoming new single Mr Right is an enticing dip back into ‘60s history. It shows off Maria’s Motown, soul and jazz influences and can be compared to the likes of Amy Winehouse, Dionne Bromfield and Duffy. Although soul and jazz are usually considered to be the field allowed only for grownups, Maria effortlessly infuses her music with a mature expressiveness. She is very comfortable slipping on these classic styles like costumes and morphing into them. Her expression combined with the rich, quivering voice and a straight to the point retro production, together create a powerful formula for the perfect summer song.

Mr Right demonstrates a modern approach to the legend that is Motown and will be available for sale and download everywhere 8th September 2014.

Savage Messiah Announce New UK Dates

Savage Messiah Announce New UK Dates

11th November at The Garage, London
22nd November at The Institute, Birmingham

London based Metal-Head's Savage Messiah have announced two new UK dates with Glasswerk in November. After releasing their latest album "The Fateful Dark" in April, the band are now setting sights on touring the UK again.

In the 6 years since forming, the band has achieved respectable successes, having had two worldwide official releases and one independent ep, in that time working with Grammy nominated producer Chris Tsangarides and having sold in excess of 10,000 records to date. The band has also picked up notable touring credentials having supported Overkill on a full European tour in 2010, supporting Evile in the UK and picking up shows with Death Angel, Queensryche, Skeletonwitch, Sylosis and have appeared at UK festivals including Bloodstock Open Air, Hammerfest, Devilstone Open Air, Hellfire Festival while playing many headlining shows in the UK and Europe.

The band consists of Dave Silver on lead guitar and vocals, Joff Bailey on lead guitar, Stefano Selvatico on bass and Andrea Gorio on drums. The first recorded output from Savage Messiah was the independently produced and financed ep “Spitting Venom” in 2007. The e.p achieved moderate acclaim with Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic.com, summarizing, “it shouldn't be long before Savage Messiah are signed to a more supportive label infrastructure“

Ultimately “Spitting Venom” scored the band a recording contract with independent metal specialists Candlelight Records, who released the bands first full length album “Insurrection Rising” in 2009. Produced by Chris Tsangarides and mixed and engineered by Scott Atkins, “Insurrection Rising” is a massive leap in terms of production and song writing and earned the band high praise from all corners of the metal world.

After touring had ceased in support of “Insurrection Rising” the band opted to move to Earache Records for the release of the 2012 album “Plague of Conscience”. Once again working with Scott Atkins, “Plague of Conscience” is a more polished affair with once again noticeable improvements being made in the song writing and performance departments. Metal Hammer in the UK awarded the album 8/10 and Burrrn Magazine in Japan gave the band an unprecedented 95/100 score. The band and label initially opted to give the album away as a free download, achieving over 42,000 downloads in the first week!

Lucky Elephant announce return with British Working Man

Lucky Elephant British Working Man

Lucky Elephant announce return with British Working Man

London collective Lucky Elephant are to release their new album Rainy Kingdom through Sunday Best on August 25. Produced by Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Devendra Banhart, The Bees), the album will be preceded by the release of the track ‘British Working Man’ as a single that will be available as instant gratification upon album pre-order here: http://smarturl.it/TheRainyKingdom.

The album’s opening single “British Working Man” was nearly the title track, "...but we didn't want to spend a year explaining to people that it's not a BNP record." The song is accompanied by a stop-motion animation video set in a recognisably modern London (the DLR and the London Eye are both visible, as is an Apple laptop), depicting the life and repetitive routine of an office drone. The visual style will evoke nostalgic associations with - depending upon your generation – Trumpton/Chigley/Camberwick Green, Postman Pat or Bob The Builder, all set in an ordered society where everything turns out alright. In Lucky Elephant's world, however, there's always the unsettling suggestion that things won't turn out so well: the sight of a passenger plane passing overhead is accompanied by the sound of a WW2 bomber.

As the band's own stated influences (Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Tom Waits, Yabby You, Ian Carr's Nucleus. Eric Satie and Les Dawson, since you ask), Rainy Kingdomacts as a companion piece to the obscure but fascinating TV documentary which inspired it; We Was All One, made by Ken Ashton for Thames Television in 1972. It depicted the dying working class culture of the Bermondsey, Old Kent Rd and Elephant and Castle areas with beautifully bittersweet pathos, catching the moment when the traditional Cockney way of life was being dismantled, as slums were cleared, communities broken up and inhabitants sent to healthier, but more isolated tower block homes.

Lucky Elephant’s Deptford-born and bred keyboardist Sam Johnson knows the neighbourhood in the film intimately. His band-mates, however, bring more of a distance: fellow gadget-twiddler Paul Burnley is from Bradford, and the line-up is completed by North Londoner Laurence Clack on drums, and vocalist Emmanuel 'Manu' Labescat, from the south-west of France. Together, on this album, they pursue the relatively-uncharted "band as social historian" role also explored, in recent years, by Public Service Broadcasting, British Sea Power and Eccentronic Research Council.

Johnson discovered Ken Ashton's We Was All One documentary more-or-less by accident. “It was probably a bored internet moment, clicking around, you go down these weird alleys. And immediately, I said 'This is amazing'. We all became slightly obsessed with it. When you're writing you need a spark, and usually it's heartbreak or lost love, but we used this. It was a microcosm of so much that is going on. Not just in South East London or London or England even, but the whole of Europe.”

The Fremen to launch New Material soon

The Fremen New Material

The Fremen to launch New Material soon

In the big smoke of London town, South of the river, there’s a cultural and musical revolution brewing. An alliance has formed in the shape of a group insistent on ignoring creatively restrictive boundaries, seamlessly crossing genres and desperately avoiding being categorised. The Fremen are readying themselves for an all out assault on what you think you know about grime, hip hop, grunge and metal.

The group, whose coming together is a story in itself, naturally blend their individual influences with each member bringing a different flavour to the pallet. Fans, equipped with an open mind, from all sides of the musical spectrum are able to find elements of the band's style that resonate with them and this echoing of ideals isn't restricted to their musical output.

The Fremen are also involved in the Long Live South Bank campaign, an award winning initiative to help preserve the iconic Southbank Undercroft skate park, which shares support from infamous professional skateboarder Chad Muska.

After a tentative introduction into the scene with the DIY ‘Darkness Is Light Enough’ EP and taking their inimitable sound on the road last year, The Fremen (and fans alike) are preparing for the next wave of attack with their closely guarded forthcoming material.
