Goodbye Chanel share new AA single Youth/Maman

Goodbye Chanel new AA single Youth/Maman

Goodbye Chanel share new AA single Youth/Maman

Leeds-based quintet Goodbye Chanel have announced their new AA single, ‘Youth/Maman’. Produced by Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Ghostpoet, Spectrals), the single follows the ‘Hot City Nights’ EP and will again be released by hometown label Dead Young Records on November 17.

Typically vibrant and hazy, the two new tracks ooze melody in abundance, underneath a blanket of rich reverb and layered vocals. Whilst theirs is a sound perhaps easier to associate with summer than it is any of their contemporaries, the band do cite Fleetwood Mac, Cadillac Cars, Kate Bush and, of course, pictures of frontman Scott’s Uncle - the unwitting cover star of previous track 'Foreva’- as influential figures. Of working with Richard Formby on the AA single, the five-piece confessed that “it made sense that he be the first person to take our songs from the bedroom to the studio; it was just a really organic experience, you can even hear Richard playing on one of the tracks.

The concept of Goodbye Chanel was born across one summer spent travelling through Paris, Berlin and Brighton. It quickly became the fully established five-piece band it is today when close friends Scott Johnson (vocals and guitar), Giuseppe De Luca (vocals & guitar), Adam Taylor (bass), Sean Goodchild (guitar) and Graham Robson (drums) got together to work on songs in their native Leeds. Crafting their own brand of multi layered vocal hooks and manifesting a world of melancholic angst with accessible pop melodies and lyrical nostalgia, Goodbye Chanel have attracted early praise from the likes of NME Magazine, DIY Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit and Dummy.

Bombers release new AA Single Forecast/The Way you Think You Look

Bombers release new AA Single Forecast/The Way you Think You Look

Bombers release new AA Single Forecast/The Way you Think You Look

The Birmingham ‘scene’ has been well publicised and as NME praised Bombers for being “[among] the second wave of Birmingham’s most promising talent”, Artrocker and Music Week however distanced them by saying they “refuse tie-dye and irony in favour of short bursts of sharp and satisfying post-punk” and The Fly agreed citing them for being “refreshingly different from the city at the moment”.

While bands such as Peace and Swim Deep possess a doe-eyed psychedilc sense of nostalgia Bombers have always held a more twisted and daggered approach to their blend of post punk. Where as previous single Drawing had a doom laden snarl of Nick Cave and Joy Division with hints of No Wave, Forecast and The Way You Think You Look hold more a minimal sense of nonchalance; declaring a sense of frustration, confusion and wry observations of bands like The Fall.

Not ones to be pigeonholed the dark undertones are still there but this time its stripped back with exasperated fury. They are still hitting the live circuit with relentless energy and it’s the uncontrollable live force that’s making their reputation spread across the UK.

The Arcadian Kicks release a brand new single, I Wanna Take You Home’ (produced by Mike Chapman) on One Beat Records (dist. by EMI).

Free download, ‘You Play The Girl’ available now at http://facebook.com/thearcadiankicks
The Arcadian Kicks purvey a spectrum of musical fusion that ranges from Fleetwood Mac, My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth to contemporary artists such as The Naked And The Famous and The Horrors.

They have been active for the last few years building a formidable reputation by touring extensively and swelling it with their own club nights at home in Birmingham. They’ve also played some major music festivals including Isle of Wight, Wychwood and the BBC Introducing stage at T in the Park.

The Arcadian Kicks have been working and recording with Mike Chapman, the legendary producer of Blondie's classic albums, amongst many others. He rates them highly; "I can honestly say that making this record was right up there with the best work I've done. Any time you get to work with kids who have their kind of skills, you are reminded on a daily basis of why you got into this business in the first place. I love these kids!"
This partnership has resulted in two creative, extremely weird and enjoyable studio sessions, that have produced a dramatic step forward from their indie/rock roots into a unique sonic realm of relentlessly solid rhythm, ethereal melodies and honest lyrics delivered with a powerful audacity that is sure to make it hard for music fans everywhere to ignore.

The Carpels - January 2012 - Single 'Bears' and special live shows

The Carpels - Single 'Bears' and special live shows

The Carpels
On the cusp of something new...
January 2012
8th - new single, ‘Bears’ released
14th London, This Feeling "Tips For 2012" Club Night .

21st Birmingham, The Carpels and Friends, at MAC (opportunity for local talent).

"The Carpels are great!" Jim Gellatly BBC Scotland/Amazing Radio

One of the Midlands most exciting new bands, The Carpels, aim to be at the forefront of modern cutting edge pop with their mix of punk & electronic sounds. Picking up an inspired lead from Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Late of the Pier and The Fall, their sound is a 'sock it to 'em' blend that makes dancefloors take notice then go nuts.

The Carpels were first picked up by Charlatans drummer, Jon Brookes who signed them to his EMI distributed label, One Beat Records, earlier this year. He describes what it is that makes you sit up and notice: "They've got a kind of quirky sound mixed with a dubstep influence coming from the synth and then these amazing baritone melodies, so just based on those three influences alone it's worth checking them out, right?"

The band have recorded with producer, Jim Spencer (New Order, The Cribs, Doves, Shaun Ryder etc) to great effect. The first two releases won superlative laden reactions – including being enthused about on BBC 6Music by Mark Radcliffe - and their first live radio session (BBC Introducing WM). Niall Doherty (Q Magazine) called debut release ‘Sand’ an “attention grabbing introduction”. Radio 1’s Rob da Bank played it and described them as “incredible”. Second single, ‘Handshakes’, was launched at London’s This Feeling Club where The Carpels were snapped by Libertines photographer Roger Sargent.

They were invited back to play in Autumn. Always one of the most sought after slots in the capital to get just once, The Carpels have already been asked to play a third time at This Feeling’s prestigious Tips For 2012 event (in conjunction with The Sun Newspaper) for new single, ‘Bears’, in January.

The band’s vitality has magnetised a hive of creativity and The Carpels are in the vanguard of a mighty Midlands music movement starting to come to attention. In the spirit of sharing they are seeking West Midlands based unsigned bands, solo artists or collectives to play at mac (Midland Arts Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham) on 21st January 2012. The Carpels And Friends, is a chance to appear at a professional gig. Deadline for submissions is 25th November 2011.

See http://facebook.com/TheCarpels for more details

The Carpels: Michael Darby - Guitar & vocals, Dylan Williams - Lead vocals & synth, Tom Minchin – Guitar, Ewan Wallace – Bass, Jacob McQue – Drums

New Jon Gomm single/video Passionflower released today

With a once-seen-never-forgotten two-handed style, both physical and complex, Jon Gomm is an incredible guitar virtuoso, using one acoustic instrument to create drum sounds, bass lines and sparkling melodies all at the same time.

The son of a music critic, musicians would often stay at the Gomm household in Blackpool on the understanding Jon would get a guitar lesson, meaning he had one-to-one tuition from blues legends like Walter Trout and Bob Brozman.

International tours have generated a huge cult following and Jon is regarded by those ‘in the know’ as one of the world’s most talented and innovative guitarists. His videos are watched thousands of times within days of appearing on Youtube, and his home-recorded debut album Hypertension sold over ten thousand copies with no industry backing. The next, Don't Panic, sold out on Amazon within 5 days.
The songs were home-recorded by Jon, and each one has an accompanying video which has been produced by Jon’s fans, keen as always to get involved and help the cause.

A percentage of the sales of the single will be going to Jon's mum's charity The Happy House children's home for kids in Kenya, many of whom have been orphaned by Aids or malaria.

The first single, Passionflower is a beautifully uplifting track where Gomm’s blues and folk inflected vocals soar over the distortion drenched sound steel strings bending and retuning. The accompanying array of percussive cracks and bangs created on the body of his well worn guitar create an ethereal soundscape. Jon describes it as a song about personal growth inspired by a tropical plant which overgrew the whole of his little backyard in inner-city Leeds.

Passionflower blends technical virtuosity on the guitar with an earthy lyrical style to make an everyman anthem.

Future releases in the project will include an instrumental arrangement of a disco classic, a political call to arms, an overblown acoustic-prog meditation on obsession and a cover version of one of Jon’s favourite songs from his childhood.
