Plastikman to perform at Sónar as he announces first album in over a decade

The Canadian artist Richie Hawtin gives us a glimpse of his new album as Plastikman, the first in over 10 years, which will be digitally released on 10th June, just two days before its only performance worldwide.

EX" is the eagerly anticipated new album from Plastikman - the project with which Richie Hawtin gained worldwide recognition in the 1990s. The album was recorded live at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and will be presented live and exclusively at Sónar by Day with the show "Objekt” on Thursday 12th June. The date at Sónar will be Plastikman's only live show in 2014 and new tracks will be presented at the Barcelona festival, pushing the boundaries of techno, offering a synchronicity of art and sound, a place for electronica that’s both cinematic and thought-provoking. Listen to an excerpt here: http://po.st/EX

The Plastikman show (which extends the closing time at Sónar on Thursday 12th until 11 pm) arrives in Barcelona with a special adaptation for SonarVillage, with a spectacular specially constructed LED obelisk. On the next day, Friday 13th June, Hawtin will be performing at Sónar once again - this time with one of his high-precision technological sets at SonarClub (Sónar by Night).

“EX" will be released digitally on 10th June and in physical format (vinyl, CD and a limited edition for SubPac, a new portable bass system) on 14th July, on MINUS / Mute. Mute is the label run by Daniel Miller who will be responsible for the set that provides a prelude to Plastikman's performance at Sónar by Day on Thursday.  “EX" includes seven unreleased tracks, all of which have the two letters (E and X) at the start of the titles: EXposed, EXtend, EXpand, EXtrude, EXplore, EXpire and EXhale.

Bestival reveals Friday night headliner Fatboy Slim

Featuring 10 fields of wonderment and 20 stages filled with amazing music, insane sideshows and magical happenings, Bestival’s spectacular 10th birthday bash this September 5th-8th is set to be nothing short of EPIC.

Celebrating those 10 years for all they’re worth, we’ve already got a musical line-up that’s second to none, with headline appearances from Elton John and Snoop Dogg, sets from M.I.A, Franz Ferdinand, The Flaming Lips, The Knife, Wu-Tang Clan, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Annie Mac Presents, and so many more. Plus we’ve got jaw-dropping attractions like our amazing new arena The Port, Films in the Forest, World Music Day on the Bandstand, The Wishing Tree, Swamp Shack and The Grand Palace of Entertainment, and now we are mind-blowingly excited to announce our crowd slaying Friday night headliner!

Fatboy Slim
says: “It was at Glastonbury 2003 where I closed the Sunday Best stage for Rob da Bank that I first saw the glint in his eye to create his own festival. 12 months later I was headlining Bestival and TEN years on, here I am again, throwing them the biggest birthday bash possible and sharing the main stage alongside Elton John and Snoop Dogg. It’s an absolute honour to return for this momentous occasion – staying creative and independent in these times. You've come a long way, baby!"

YES! Our much anticipated Friday night headliner will be the one and only Fatboy Slim AKA Norman Cook. Norman was one of the very first headliners at the inaugural Bestival in 2004, so it's a real coup to have him aboard HMS Bestival in his rightful place once again, helping to celebrate our spectacular tenth anniversary. Playing an exclusive set just for us, which he's dubbed 'Fatboy Slim's Bestival Birthday Bash', it’s guaranteed to be a monumental appearance, with outrageous onstage birthday party antics galore and some very special surprises which will be revealed on the night.  Armed with an almost endless abundance of mega-hits from Everybody Needs A 303 to Star 69 (What The F*ck) and way beyond, you can expect the mother of all celebrations as the master of good-time party music throws down a large helping of epic goodness, like only he can.

You don’t want to miss this one it’s going to be a legendary 10th birthday. And what a 10 years it’s been, from just a few thousand people rocking out in 2004 to becoming the Best Major Festival winner in 2012, we certainly have come a long way baby! Staying true to our independent, boutique roots we’re playing with the big boys now and we promise a spectacle that’s not to be missed, it’s going to be the party of the year, so don’t miss out!

It’s full steam ahead for HMS Bestival. Roll on September!

The legendary Slam Tent is back at T in the Park 2013

Slam Tent T in the Park 2013

The legendary Slam Tent is back at T in the Park 2013

The legendary Slam Tent is back at T in the Park this July, with some of the biggest names in dance heading to Kinross to get the festival’s 20th year celebrations well and truly started. Bringing cutting edge beats, a top of the range lighting spec and the big club atmosphere straight to the heart of the Scottish countryside, Slam 2013 will see the most in-demand DJs and hottest mixing talent take to the decks over 12th – 14th July. Festival organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager have today unveiled a phenomenal line-up curated by world renowned dance powerhouse Slam, and have announced that for the second year running the Slam Tent will open on the Friday night, giving dance fans a whole extra night to party.

More than anyone else in modern electronic music, Richie Hawtin has made his mark on electronic music by being inventive and relentlessly proving himself to be a true innovator. The one-man mogul behind acclaimed techno imprints Plus 8 and Minus sends constantly evolving signals out all over the world and his DJ reputation has earned him many Best International DJ awards with fans and the music industry. His Plastikman persona has given techno a unique face with a series of four ruthlessly minimal albums of skeletal beauty and his breathtaking live sets have packed dancefloors across the globe, and helped to invent stadium techno. Having performed a rare live set as Plastikman in 2010 in the Slam Tent, he returns to DJ at T in the Park this summer for the first time since 2008.

Swedish techno master Adam Beyer has been spinning a wide range of hiphop, hiphouse, acid and techno since the early 90s. His own hard, percussive and loop oriented style and deft production skills have made him one of the world’s most in demand producer/DJs and his meteoric rise has been cited as one of the catalysts for Swedish techno’s current influence.

Voted Best DJ of 2012 in a Resident Advisor poll, Detroit-born Seth Troxler continues to ignite the world of house and techno with a constant barrage of vocal jams. Having collaborated with major dance luminaries, he is one of the most in demand DJs and producers in the world.

Flying the flag for Berlin’s infamous Berghain nightclub and Ostgut Ton record label, Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann (b2b) are known for their uncompromising take on techno, both in production and DJing style. The pair have won plaudits for bringing a raw and authentic feel back to techno and will get the Slam crowd going with their famous Berghain sound when they play a special back to back DJ set.

In the past two decades, Slam  have defined techno in Scotland, cultivated many artists of note on their Soma label, and remixed everyone from Daft Punk to Underworld. Their weekly Slam Radio show has become the most listened to techno show on Soundcloud attracting listeners from around the globe.  The legendary UK duo Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle have travelled far and wide, leaving scorch marks on dance floors across the world and return home to T in the Park for the festival’s 20th year.

Three of the world’s greatest DJ pioneers DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Mark Farina (b2b) are sure to deliver a jawdropping set. One of house music’s true pioneers, DJ Sneak’s signature funky filtered disco-influenced house and tough, jacking beats have revolutionised and redefined the genre for well over 15 years. Derrick Carter and Mark Farina are two great pinnacles of Chicago house music's '90s wave, and the three unite for a very special set at T in the Park.

Next up is minimal house and techno connoisseur Nina Kraviz. The Russian producer, singer and DJ made a name for herself through hosting her own night at Moscow’s legendary Club Propaganda before taking her own brand of deep-house and soulful techno on tour, filling the dancefloors across the globe.

Dirtybird boss and tech-funk producer/DJ Claude VonStroke has headlined almost every major club, festival and basement after-party in the world. His outdoor dirtybird parties in San Francisco's scenic Golden Gate Park have become a legendary summer destination point for music fans, and he’ll surely get the crowd going in the Slam Tent this summer.

Leading the new wave of talented producers to emerge from Bristol within recent years, Eats Everything aka Daniel Pearce has defined a whole new genre of forward-thinking underground house music. Drawing elements from classic house, UK bass music, Detroit techno, jungle and early rave, he pays homage to everything from Randy Crawford to Ray Charles and Murk to MK.

Numbers co-founder Jackmaster’s star is rapidly rising, as showcased at parties from his native Glasgow to Berlin to New York, and from superclubs such as Berghain and Fabric to legendary underground warehouse raves. With a new monthly show as part of BBC Radio 1′s In New DJs We Trust series under his belt, he’s sure to receive a local hero’s welcome at T in the Park.

Mired in British dance culture, Joy Orbison's brand of garage-house marries elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep and has been attracting major critical acclaim. Alongside the release of the gargantuan Hyph Mngo which was hailed as the most essential purchase of the season and material on his own imprint Doldrums, notorious mixes for Radio 1 and Ministry have well and truly cemented his reputation as one of the UK’s hottest new talents.

Also heading to the Slam Tent this summer are Glasgow’s own DJ/production duo Silicone Soul. They are set to release an album on Soma to mark ten years since their subterranean parallel project and label Darkroom Dubs first unleashed its uniquely idiosyncratic take on house music. Charged with the purest distillation of the edgy early hours spirit from which house music was originally forged, Darkroom Dubs has become renowned for Silicone Soul’s walks on the dark side; the ultimate bastion of deep electronic dance music.

Back for its 17th year at T in the Park, the Slam Tent has an atmosphere second to none, with many more artists to be announced. The unveiling of another top-notch line-up set to rumble the walls and raise the roof of the tent comes hot on the heels of the announcement that electronic pioneers Kraftwerk will play the festival’s 20th year in July, meaning T in the Park truly is the ultimate destination for discerning dance music fans.

Organisers are set to unveil yet more top acts for the T20th bill next week, with headliners Mumford and Sons, Rihanna and The Killers, plus Kraftwerk, Emeli Sandé, The Script, Two Door Cinema Club, alt-J, Paloma Faith, Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men and Azealia Banks already confirmed.

Experience the 20th year of T in the Park and join 85,000 music lovers per day as part of the best audience in the world. T in the Park 2013 tickets will go on sale on Friday 22nd February – go to www.tinthepark.com or www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call 08444 999 990.

Plastikman Live 1.5 UK tour dates announced

Richie Hawtin Presents Plastikman Live 1.5
UK Tour Dates Announced
Tickets on general sale 9am Friday 22nd July 2011

We are pleased to announce the return of Richie Hawtin’s iconic alter ego Plastikman for his first ever standalone world tour which will see him perform 3 spectacular shows in the UK including Manchester, Glasgow and London.   The award winning live show will unveil itself in an all new 1.5 format as it continues to evolve and push technology and live performance forward.

Plastikman is arguably one of the only live shows around where all aspects of the performance - music, lighting, audio, visuals and real-time audience interaction via the SYNK App - are controlled by a single on-stage performer. The Plastikman live experience has been developed by the electronic visionary Richie Hawtin, Derivative and his production team over the past ten years. In 2010, readers of the largest electronic music portal Resident Advisor voted Plastikman as the ‘number one’ live electronic show of the year.

Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman creation returned in 2010 and debuted its new look at Timewarp in Mannheim in March of that year. This version toured festivals the world over, establishing an unrivalled reputation as one of the most spectacular electronic live shows of all time, and quickly united a new generation of music fans with those who had followed the Plastikman project from its groundbreaking innovations in the 1990s. The Plastikman logo once again has returned to the forefront of the electronic movement as EDM (electronic dance music) fever gripped North America and Plastikman performed acclaimed shows at Electric Daisy Carnival and Canada’s Mutek.

Hawtin and his team have continued to develop and evolve the show - incorporating brand new Plastikman music, visuals and interactive technologies. The updates of the show have once again been created within Hawtin's fully-collaborative lighting, visual and interactive team: Ali Demirel & Jarrett Smith of Derivative. (TouchDesigner visuals);  Matthias Vollrath (lighting integrations); Jeremy Jacobs (JPLS) & Johannes Kramer (sonic upgrades); and Robert Hexler & Bryan McDade (interactivity).

As with all previous dates, Plastikman Live will be fully interactive for any fans with the free SYNK iPhone application, which itself has been re-launched with new features including a live chat, live behind-the-curtain camera feed and more interactive elements, making the show one of the only genuinely interactive concert experiences in the world today.

Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman states: “I'm incredibly excited to finally take Plastikman on its first standalone tour. These dates will represent the last opportunities for fans to catch Plastikman Live in its current form: the 1.5 version of the show we've spent nearly a year of fine-tuning. After that, Plastikman will be returning to the shadows to begin work on a brand new 2.0 concept. The fall tour will be full of surprises, and the performance will continue to be spontaneous and unique for every show – the way I believe live music should be performed in 2011.”

Support on the UK leg of the tour will come from Magda and Ambivalent - with full line-ups for each date to be announced shortly.  For full info on the world tour go to www.plastikman.com/live
The Plastikman Live 2011 tour is in proud association with media & ticket partner Resident Advisor.
Tickets go on general sale 9am Friday 22nd July.
