Following our announcement that we will be holding a fundraising night on March 30th at Nation in Liverpool helping us to remember those who lost their lives in the A3 coach crash following last year’s Bestival, we’re very pleased to be able to announce a whole host of Liverpool’s finest and Bestival’s best for Bestival At Nation.

Heading up the live music action on the night will be Ian McCulloch with Ian Broudie, two Liverpool legends who originally found fame in the early 80s Eric’s scene. Between them Echo and the Bunnymen and The Lighting Seeds have racked up numerous chart hits and become part of the fabric of rock n roll and the pairs own musical relationship stretches as far back as the Bunnymen’s debut album Crocodiles in 1980, so it’s a real honour for us that they’ve agreed to take part in our fundraiser.  We’ll also have the previously announced The Cuban Brothers dropping the party funk and b-boy moves in their own inimitable style, electronic trio Is Tropical, electro rockers Killaflaw and sets from the hotly tipped The Tea Street Band and future guitar duo Hoodie Ledbetter.

As anyone who has been to Bestival will know it’s not just about the music and we have some real treats lined-up for you including a spoken word set from the world’s most lauded trafficker of illicit substances, Howard Marks aka Mr. Nice. Plus we’ll have a rare screening of one of the best concert films from recent years, The Chemical Brothers: Don't Think.

In the spiritual home of Cream we will of course have a corking DJ line-up that will include a very special guest synonymous with rocking the dancefloor in the past 20 years, with Bestival curator and Radio 1 leftfield behemoth Rob da Bank, a selection of Liverpool’s finest including Steve Parry, Chris McGee, Dave Whelan, Phil Fearon and James Silk plus Bestival’s own Little Chief.

The monies raised from the night will go to the immediate parents or guardians of festivalgoers Michael Molloy and Kerry Ogden who lost their lives in the accident and Zach Washington-Young who suffered life changing injuries.

Tickets priced £16.25 (including booking fee) are available now from Ticketline. Please join us on Saturday 30th March.

Nation to host Bestival coach crash tribute gig says Rob Da Bank

Nation Bestival coach crash tribute gig

Nation to host Bestival coach crash tribute gig says Rob Da Bank

In September 2012, Bestival promoters and the entire festival team were utterly devastated to learn of the fatal coach crash involving Bestival-goers following our 2012 event. After extensive consultation with those affected and as a tribute to everyone involved, we would like to announce a very special charity night ‘Bestival Benefit’ on Saturday 30th March 2013.

“Bestival HQ and everyone connected to Bestival 2012 were devastated by what happened after our festival on the A3. We’ve been working to get an event set up to show some love and hopefully raise lots of money for those affected and their families and we’re pleased it’s in the home town of many of those involved; Liverpool. Thanks to everyone who has rallied round and contributed to making this event happen – everyone from the DJs and live bands to the venue Nation are donating their time and services for free so please get the date in your diary and prepare to party for a very good cause. See you on the dancefloor.” Rob da Bank

Michael Molloy, Kerry Ogden and coach driver Colin Daulby died in the tragic accident, Zach Washington-Young suffered life-changing injuries and many others involved were also affected. We knew that we had to do everything we could to show that they are in our hearts and minds so we’d be honoured if you would join us in paying tribute to them, helping us to raise as much money for charity as possible.

Iconic Liverpool landmark Nation, the home of Cream, has kindly provided us with the venue for a fundraising show hosted by Rob da Bank and The Cuban Brothers that will feature some of Liverpool’s finest and guests doing what they do best with proceeds from the night donated to charity.

Tickets priced £16.25 including booking fee are available now from Ticketline. Please save the date and put Saturday 30th March in your diary now. Full line-up details for this one-off event will be released very soon, so please watch this space.

Stellar Line up of DJs and bands confirmed for Brazilica charity gig at Nation

Festinho are to bring the magic of their renowned fundraising music festival to Liverpool for one night only, kicking off this year’s Brazilica festival, the UK’s largest Brazilian Carnival event. Friday 13 July will see Liverpool’s legendary Nation (the home of Cream) rocking to Brazilian beats, the perfect way to kick off the carnival weekend to come. All the proceeds from the evening will go to the ABC (Action For Brazil’s Children) Trust.

A stellar line up of acts is confirmed for the event, including Norman Jay , DJ Marky and Stamina MC, Hexstatic with live 3D show Holotronica, Saravah Soul, The Fontanas, Tribo de Pasada, DJ Cal Jader and many more great acts to follow.

Norman Jay is arguably one of the finest and most respected DJs in the world today, who was awarded an MBE in 2002 for ‘DJing and services to music’. Norman began DJing in the 1970s and played most of the seminal New York venues that mattered back in the day including Dancetaria, World, Palladium, Zanzibar, The Shelter, The Sound Factory, Body & Soul, Giant Step and the legendary Paradise Garage. He is co-founder of London’s Kiss FM which began its life as a pirate radio station, one of the founders of the late 80s ‘rare groove’ scene and a pioneer of house music in the UK. Superstar DJ Judge Jules was Norman’s protégée and partner. Today Norman regularly tours the world to DJ at high profile clubs and events.  He has played for the likes of Mick Jagger at his exclusive 50th birthday party - Robert Di Nero, Michael Caine, George Michael, Will Smith, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Jamiroquai (who affectionately calls him the 'Godfather'), Paul Weller (who has been quoted as saying that Jay is his favourite dj), comedian Lenny Henry (who reputedly modelled his pirate radio DJ TV character on Jay).
DJ Marky is a London based Brazilian drum and bass DJ, one of the most popular in his field. He has headlined Lovebox festival, showcased his DJ skills on Radio 1 and had a long term residency at London’s The End club. He will be joined by Stamina MC, a drum and bass MC and vocalist who has enjoyed chart success on tracks such as LK by DJ Marky and XRS Land and Barcelona by D. Kay and Epsilon.

Great bands on the line up include innovative samba and jazz fusion quartet Tribo Da Pesada (who also play the Brazilica Williamson Square stage on Saturday 14 July) and Saravah Soul. From the cross-cultural melting-pot of London’s underground music scene comes this half-Brazilian, half-British band bring their own special blend of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, 60's soul and Afrobeat.

More acts are to be announced soon, so get ready to shake your bunda to Brazilian beats long into the night!

Brazilica, the vibrant festival of Brazilian culture which brought Latin fever to Liverpool last summer - attracting over 60,000 visitors to the city centre - is back for 2012! Organisers Liverpool Carnival Company and Orb Events promise that this year’s event will build on the success of the 2011 carnival, taking over the city in a massive 3 day event from Friday 13 – Sunday 15 July.

The festival will include a 500-strong evening parade, outdoor music stages featuring top authentic Brazilian acts, a Carnival Ball, Latin American street food markets and much more.
Brazilica has become one of the flagship events of the year in Liverpool’s festival calendar - a colourful celebration of Brazilian music, dance, culture, food and football!

A little about Festinho
Festinho grew out of celebration. It began with a birthday party, and quickly evolved into a fundraising music and arts festival hosted by the ABC Trust. A friend of the charity generously agreed to host a live music stage in the grounds of their country home. 450 people rocked up and it went down in history as one of the most kick-ass garden parties ever.
The event has since grown up into Festinho, a more inclusive event for all ages, celebrating some of the finest bands and DJs from the UK and Brazil whilst raising funds for a very worthwhile cause.

It's all put together by a hard-working team of volunteers. Many of them are friends and have been putting on events, DJing, VJing, and festivalling together for years and are all putting our experience to good use. Every single person on the team, and many of the artists, give their time for free so that as much money as possible goes straight to the ABC Trust.
Every year is different, and every year it gets better and better, thanks to a determined team, talented artists, and a truly fantastic crowd. It's still very small compared to most festivals, and we know exactly what we want for Festinho in the future: to stay intimate, friendly, magical and with its twist of Brazilian flavour. Small really is beautiful.

A little about Liverpool Carnival Company
Liverpool Carnival Company was created 6 years ago by husband and wife creative team, Roger & Maeve Morris. Roger’s career as a professional percussionist spans the last 40 years and includes accolades such as performing with The Real Thing, Jools Holland and Novo Balanço. Maeve, his wife of 30 years, produces almost single-handedly all of the exquisite costumes worn by the drummers and fabulous dancers from the Liverpool Samba School. They have delivered and participated in over 900 events in Brazil, Amsterdam, Ireland, and the UK. Liverpool Samba School holds the accolade for being one of the only non Brazilian samba schools to play in the Rio Carnival parade, with an ongoing partnership with Mangueira samba school -the oldest school in Brazil and a multiple Carnival winner.
Liverpool Carnival Company has delivered a Rio-style carnival in Liverpool since its European Capital of Culture year in 2008 with the focus on involving and engaging local communities in its preparation and performance as well as presenting a memorable spectacle for the people of Liverpool and visitors from further afield.

‘RUNWAY’ THE JUSTICE VOGUE BALL GOES INTERNATIONAL

VOULEZ VOUS VOGUE AVEC MOI?

‘RUNWAY’ THE JUSTICE VOGUE BALL GOES INTERNATIONAL

House of Suarez are delighted to announce thatRUNWAY” - The Justice Vogue Ball, to be held at Liverpool’s Nation (Cream Super Club) on Friday 29th October from 7pm will feature performers from across the globe, making this a competition international proportion.

JoJo Zolina of Vancouver’s ‘House of Dangercat’ will Jet in especially for the Ball, Jojo will perform a short piece before taking his place on the judging panel beside Liverpool’s own Pete Price who has also been confirmed to pass comment on the evening’s offerings.

Zolina lived in the Philippines until he was 12 and has a big personality on-stage, with his dancing incorporating a plethora of styles: the Filipino folk dancing, acrobatics, vogueing, locking, bhangra, and more. His earliest influence was watching his uncles break-dance in the streets of Manila. It’s Jojo’s mission to teach others how to Vogue. He says that “this type of dancing just requires an open mind and lots of attitude.... “It’s like Pride, where we celebrate everyone.”

Jojo explains ‘ Vogeuing was born in New York in the 1970s after disco was driven underground as the “devil music” associated with gay culture. Those dancers responded to the music, they created a whole new language. More than a fad. I can’t wait to see what Liverpool can do on the RUNWAY, it’s fantastic to be able to come and perform in such a great, cultural city and I’m expecting a lot from the Vogueing Houses.’

Continuing the international flavour, House of Savage will ‘whack’ in from the Netherlands to compete in the fierce categories such as Bizarre, Club Freak, Femme Realness (drag) and Erotica. House of Savage is made up of dancers from the ‘Got Skills Crew’ based in Rotterdam. Got Skills is an organisation which is engaged in creating abilities for future development of urban art forms and artists. Founded in 2007 by Jason Jeandor, Ingeborg van Weissenbruch & Osman Batal, the company has its own society full of motivated, talented dancers and produces awe inspiring shows for the most divergent of purposes; the Vogue Ball will be no exception as they lay down the Vogueing gauntlet and threaten to tear up the competition. Will you stand in their way?

This year’s home grown houses include Liverpool based House of LIPA and Manchester’s own House of Fierce who will both join in the battle for ultimate vogueing supremacy against House of Suarez, House of Sian and a number of other houses from across the UK. Renowned actor, writer and dancer Rikki Beadle Blair is sure to make an impression as he keeps it all together in his role as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and renowned ‘Black Angel’ DJ Claud Cunningham sets the ‘wheels of steel’ spinning with a mix of old and new skool pop, hip hop, R ‘n’ B, house, disco and funk. Some serious sexy human specimens, bizarre creatures, and live Pa's will also stomp down the runway in the fierce fashion we have come to expect from a Liverpool Vogue Ball.

Legendary radio broadcaster and panel member Pete Price said ‘I am excited that I’ve been invited to be a judge – what Darren Suarez is bringing to Liverpool with the Vogue Ball is something not to be missed ! If you are outrageous, over the top, full of energy, and want to be part of one of the greatest happenings since 08 then join the House of Suarez. (I haven’t a clue what I’m going to wear!) ’

“RUNWAY” The Justice Vogue Ball is one of Culture Liverpool’s 10 for 2010 commissions and is also a major highlight in the calendar of the LEAP 2010 year of dance.

With all of the luscious bodies, fantastical creations, Hot House Dancers, Vicious Voguers, Wonderful Whackers, and Delightful Drag Queens. Runway - The Justice Vogue Ball will be the event of the year, make sure you get your tickets as only a few remain. What are you waiting for?

Gentlemen, start your engines and may the best Diva win!
