Sissy and The Blisters - new single 'Killing Time' released on 27th August and tour

Sissy and The Blisters

Sissy and The Blisters - new single 'Killing Time' released on 27th August and tour

Aside from the formidable ‘Vicious’, a Record Store Day split 7” release with Devin, making Clash’s Track of the Day and available now from Sissy’s Facebook page now as a Free Download, it will have been a long eleven months from the release of the ‘Let Her Go’ EP back in October 2011 to Sissy’s new single ‘Killing Time‘ out on 27th August. Simple fact is, by the end of 2011, Sissy had put out all the music they’d ever written. It can happen when a band gets the kind of accolades and major-though-100%-justified-hype on their first few releases that many bands don’t achieve ever. So Sissy simply had to go and write and record some more. The very exciting outcome of this is ‘Killing Time’ - which has already been spun by Lamacq on 6Music and Huw Stephens on Radio One. Plus Sissy have completed what will surely be a contender for Anticipated Album of the Year, their debut - set for release early 2013 and produced by the band, themselves.

Urban in Ibiza art event returns for 2012

Urban in Ibiza

Urban in Ibiza art event returns for 2012

The island’s prestigious urban art event takes place on Thurs 9 th Aug, whilst the exhibition runs from 5th – 31st August in AtzarĂł, Ibiza

In the four short years of URBAN IN IBIZA’S existence, there is no denying that it has already grown to become one of the key events on the Ibiza Calendar, drawing hundreds of urban and street art lovers to the most talked about rural hotel on the island- AtzarĂł, in the glorious hills of Sant Joan.

The brainchild of entrepreneur, gallerist and general gent about town, Paul Dizzi Saunders, this year’s main event takes place on 9th August, although the exhibition runs from 5th- 31st August in the AtzarĂł Gallery in the north of the island of Ibiza.

Never one to shy away from hard work, this year Saunders has put together an unmatched selection of international street artists, bringing them together under the one umbrella- or should that be parasol- of Urban in Ibiza 4.

This year’s showcase can only merit even more applause with the star turn of URBAN IN IBIZA 2012 confirmed as acclaimed artist/drum and bass pioneer/actor/general genius GOLDIE, who will be, for the first time, at the event in person alongside his work in the grounds of the Sant Joan rural hotel.

Goldie, named in the BBC’s list of New Elizabethans — the 60 Britons who have ‘illuminated’ the Queen of England’s reign since her coronation in 1953, recently unveiled a stunning portrait of the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee, and in an exclusive Ibiza moment, the piece will be on show when Goldie makes his first appearance at Urban in Ibiza, with a limited numbers of prints for sale.

Goldie had this to say on the whole thing, “It’s gonna be fantastic to return to the white rock as an artistic exhibiting at Urban in Ibiza and DJing at an intimate after party. It's gonna be that special, I’m leaving my UK Olympic show in London for the private view and then flying to New York straight after the after-party! Peace…”

Alongside him and keeping with the Jubilee theme, AGENT PROVOCATEUR is back at
Urban, with amongst his exhibition pieces, another reference to dear old Majesty in her golden years.

But it’s not just all about the red white and blue. Irish by origin, artist by choice, the creator of last year’s URBAN IN IBIZA live painting, FIN DAC is back for more, having recently completed a graffiti tour of Colombia swiftly followed by a commission at the Olympic Village for London 2012.

From the depths of Facebook, the had this to say about his return to the island- “After showing my work at the first 2 Urban In Ibiza events, I was thrilled last year to be able to attend in person, paint live and soak up the atmosphere and energy of, what is now, an iconic Ibizan event. That said, as good as last year was, I think this year is going to be utterly off- the-hook... and I for one am not going to miss it.”

Just two corkin’ examples of a long list of international artists whose work will be on show at Urban in Ibiza 2012…oh! And did we mention BANKSY?! It’s a big up and a bit of a coup for the organisers of Urban this year, with some of the works of illustrious graffiti artist/political activist/film director/painter, Banksy, showing in the exhibition for the first time.

Over the past years, Urban in Ibiza has become the reference for graffiti/street/art on the island, and bearing in mind that this is an island of EDM, that’s quite an achievement.

Highlights over the last years include a live performance from Roots Manuva, fashion from Dirty Pretty Things and a list of artists that, to the trained eye, can only be heralded as magnificent- Inkie, David Walker, Ben Slow, K Guy and Shoe amongst them.

The full line up for 2012 Urban in Ibiza Gallery: GOLDIE, BANKSY, DAVID WALKER, INKIE, CHRIS BRACEY, FIN DAC, K-GUY, MAU MAU, SCHOONY, REMI ROUGHE, BEN ALLEN, PURE EVIL, CALM & COLLECTED, COPYRIGHT, LILLIWEN, KID ACNE, KASHINK, WILL BARRAS, RYCA, BEN SLOW, CHU, STEFF PLAETZ, ZEUS, MYSTERIOUS AL, CEPT, NICK WALKER, MILO, AGENT PROVOCATEUR, FLORENCE BLANCHARD, SECRET MONKEY, OTTO SCHNADE, ROWAN NEWTON, MR.TRAZO, CHRISTIAN HORNSLEF, RICHARD ZARZI, MASAI, ZINA, CHEBA and GONNY VAN HULST, PINO

Saunders had this to say on the upcoming show, “Something tells me this edition will be the best yet - everyone is very charged up and excited about it. It really will be an attack on all the senses and definitely a night to remember; it's great that the exhibition stays up until the end of the month, giving people a chance to come and take it all in properly.”

Apart from the art, fashion and music also make up a substantial part of the annual event. This year, the catwalk belongs to MADAME V, KASHCA and HAZEL CROWNEY whilst as far as the soundtrack is concerned, it’s another stonkin’ combination of live music and DJs, the combination of which, if previous years are anything to go by, will surely keep the party on its dancing feet long into the wee small hours. Already confirmed on the live side of things, BUGGSY, SHOVELL, DOGZ OR GODZ, CARPETFACE and ILLITERATE and HOT ICE are pleased to serve the Urban in Ibiza crowd.

As far as the DJs on the night are concerned, it’s yet another first for the Urban in Ibiza, with the confirmation of All Saints’ MEL BLATT making her DJing debut at the do. SAMIR and DJ YUNIQ will join Blatt, who recently became a full-time resident of the island. Between the three of them, expect only quality tuneage- an eclectic selection that hs hip hop as its staple and everything else as the compliments.

All that and much more, taking place in and around the grounds of one of the island’s most breathtaking rural hotels, hidden in the north of Ibiza and a work of art itself- Atzaro- the perfect canvas for Urban in Ibiza 2012.

BoomTown festival announce theme and new stages

BoomTown Announce New Stages, Venues, and Out Of This World Fancy Dress Theme!

THURDAY 9th – SUNDAY 12th AUGUST 2012
MATTERLY ESTATE – WINCHESTER
Tier four weekend tickets - £116 + eco deposit
TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM: BoomTownfair.co.uk

Check out the epic 2012 video here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViY1NF7svS0

With tickets flying out faster than rockets from a space ship, BoomTown have announced that over 70% of their tickets have now been snapped up by the eager beaver, fun-loving town’s folk! With only ‘tier four’ tickets available, tier’s 1, 2, 3 and all teen tickets are fully sold out! Now seems like the best time to reveal that the fancy dress theme will be... Outer Space! Along with the theme BoomTown can outline the plans for 15 new venues and extra terrestrial areas, attractions and adventures.

Known for its fully immersive environment, BoomTown’s theme is not merely reserved for one day of the festival, but provides a starting point for the towns folk to create the character they wish to become for the whole festival. With last year’s theme ruling the town for the entire 4-days and nights, the outfits were outrageous, extrovert and outlandish where every single person added to the overriding atmosphere and escapism of the festival! This year’s Outer Space theme will be no different! With the mothership Arcadia crash landing onsite, strange creatures infesting the surrounding woodlands and mutated vehicles patrolling the landscape, the aliens are walking amongst us and if you can’t beat ‘em, may as well blow up a pair of marigolds, stick them on your head, spray yourself silver and join in!

In addition to the theme, BoomTown devote a lot of time and creativity developing the most interactive playground of them all; a stage for all the crazy characters; a film set for the actor within; a zoo for the unleashed animals, whatever you want to call it, BoomTown is a place like no-other! This year there will be 15 more bonkers venues springing up across the various streets of BoomTown: hidden deep in the underbelly of Downtown, propping up the rickety walls of Oldtown and gracing the marbled streets of May-fair Avenue, each just waiting with a whole array of new secret shenanigans to be uncovered...

As well as the addition of 15 new quirky and unique venues to get lost in, there are a selection of additional stages including Arcadia, Bearded Kitten’s Bank and the Hidden Woods. Already announced, Arcadia have been flat out devising their biggest show to date to include huge whirlwind fire shows, gravity defying suspended artists, electrifying lightening duels and more smoke, metal and lasers than ever before!

Bearded Kitten presents...The Bank, BoomTown are thrilled to welcome the award winning Bearded Kitten back into the fold! After the rip roaring success of last year’s tip top night spot, The Gentleman’s Club, 2012 sees The Bearded Boys hosting a plethora of lawn-based mischief all day in their brand new outdoor arena and unveil the grand opening the very first branch of the Boomtown bank! Expect array of financial fun, games, activities and general silliness followed by late-night knees-ups in the Gentleman’s parlour!

The Hidden Woods stage, set in the glorious leafed canopy of the surrounding woodland tucked away from the chaos, will present some of the finest live dub and reggae bands and provide the perfect place to sit back, relax and lose yourself!
On top of the new stages, the town committee have been given the go ahead to expand the city into a huge luscious new area for more camping, with access to the town being only a short walk along the beautiful wooded walkway. The ever growing craft and healing field has also expanded this year with new additions including saunas, hot tubs, psytrance and chillout areas.

At the same times as building the sets, town planning and concocting fancy dress outfits, the BoomTown crew have also been busy adding to the already bursting line-up and can now give a sneaky teaser that the ultimate secret headline act is locked in for Sunday night, but the anticipation will have to grow as their lips are sealed until July!

Boom Town is rapidly turning into Boom City and the 2012 fair is set to be on a whole new level of Madness!

BoomTown 2012 is over the weekend of 9 – 12th August, for more info or to buy tickets please visit: www.BoomTownfair.co.uk

The planet boat - New fringe stage at Mathew street festival

MATHEW STREET FESTIVAL, NEW FRINGE STAGE - THE PLANET BOAT
27th 28th 29th AUGUST 2001

We have been given the all clear by Mathew street fringe organiser Gordon Ross to put on one of the most original stages for the festival at the end of August. We plan to have the Planet Boat open for 3 days, Sat 27th until Monday 29th showcasing some of Liverpools most up and coming artists. The feedback throughout the city has been amazing and the news of the boat stage has already appeared in the local press.

Bands we will be showcasing on the boat include The Bo Weevils, KOF, Sean Walsh, R&R Featuring Flute Man, Fly with Vampires and other up and coming acts from Liverpool who are already getting thousand of hits on their videos and playing festivals and venues such as Glastonbury, Creamfields, The Echo Arena etc.

THE PLANET BOAT
This year The Planet boat in Liverpools Albert dock will be taking over the MATHEW STREET FESTIVAL weekend (27TH UNTIL THE 29TH AUGUST) with the most original stage in town as part of the fringe festival!
Showcasing The Bo Weevils, KOF, Sean Walsh and more of the hottest local acts from around the city the boat will be a FREE ENTRANCE SHOW, opening from 5pm on Saturday the 27th August until 23pm on Monday 29th August !

Ste says... ''After setting up the croxteth hall music festival in June and getting great feedback and support from the city I wanted to carry on setting up more unique shows with my band and with the Mathew st Festival coming up at the end of August thought this was a perfect opportunity to put on one of the most original stages in town. I put the Idea to Gordon Ross who is organizing the Fringe festival which runs alongside the Mathew st festival to and told him about my plans to showcase some of the hottest bands in Liverpool on the Helideck of The Planet Boat. I promised to make this platform the most exciting stage in town and give this city a taste of real rock and roll. The stage will be showcasing many different styles of music and we will be making a short movie with band in a box TV to raise awareness for The Planet Boat as we aim to make it one of Liverpools most attractive music venues in the country.  Future Noise Music will release a single for Poly Styrene’s “Ghoulish” on 7 August.  The single includes a pulsating remix by Hercules and Love Affair and will be available at iTunes and all digital retailers.
‘Ghoulish’ is one of the outstanding results of the torrential creative relationship which sparked between Poly and producer Youth, here hot-wiring New York’s 60s girl group sound with sparkling future-sheen and swooping sonic sheets to produce a new strain of spectacular, 21st century pop music.
In something of a coup, the single comes with a remix from the renowned Hercules & Love Affair, aka Andy Butler, who drapes Poly’s vocals over an exquisite Moroder-meets-acid house super-groove, with cliff-hanger drop and voluptuous peaks. The fact that one of dance music’s most revered names can obviously revel in turning what started as one of Poly’s observations into a post-apocalyptic disco anthem speaks further volumes about the lady who started as the original punk misfit and now rests alongside the all-time greats. Hear it here:
The video for the track , which takes  place at a casting for Michael Jackson impersonators. Watch it here:
Although music lost one of its most uniquely idiosyncratic legends, when Poly Styrene tragically succumbed to cancer in April, she had thankfully finished recording her Generation Indigo album before being diagnosed, giving her take on the 21st century, in similar fashion to her uncannily clairvoyant X-Ray Spex missives of the punk era.

50 cent to play I want my MTV at Amnesia Ibiza

'89 was the Summer of Love,
but 2011 is definitely the Summer of RAP!

It's the year of Hip Hop on the white Isle this year. The home of clubbing and dance music has opened its doors and stages to some of the biggest names in Urban and Rap this Summer, mostly thanks to pioneering moves by MTV, who recently brought Snoop Dogg to make his debut Ibiza performance at Amnesia.

Following the cancellation of Duran Duran's Summer tour due to Simon Le Bon's illness...MTV were left with a momentary gap in their calendar of events for this Summer's I Want My MTV Ibiza parties. However after much speculation, MTV naturally pulled in the big guns to fill the bill and there's possibly no bigger replacement than multi platinum selling American Rapper 50 Cent!

In keeping with MTV's Summer music programming in Ibiza, this will be the first time 50 Cent has performed on the Island. With over 30 million record sales worldwide, he'll be performing an intimate gig to 6,000 people at Amnesia for I want my MTV Ibiza this Friday 12th August. Mark Ronson, who headlined live at the club at the end of July will be providing DJ support.

It's been one of the most spectacular Summers at Amnesia, with some of the biggest stadium stars of America performing live for the very first time on the Island. If you want to get In "Da Club" tickets are available now for 50 euros not cents from

EXPO: 8th-20th August

Ibiza, August 2011 (FIX Ibiza).-
August 2011 (FIX Ibiza).  Most events worth their salt take time to establish themselves on the map of Ibiza. Then, there are those that just work from day one. URBAN IN IBIZA, the art-fashion-music-style fusion is clearly of the latter breed. As it heads into its third year, URBAN IN IBIZA and the people behind it are already gearing themselves for what promises to be, yet again, one of the firm highlights of the Ibiza Summer Season.
As the concept continues to grow, so too does the URBANization of Ibiza. First launched in 2009 by Paul Dizzy Saunders with collaboration from the offset from one of the UK’s most established urban artists, Tom Inkie Bingle, the initial idea to present the hybrid exhibition of street art, music and fashion seemed alien to many on an island of electronica, and there were those who doubted it would make much of an impact on the Ibiza calendar. But impact it did, with Sant Joan’s adorable agroturismo AtzarĂł, packed to the gills with graffiti and street art enthusiasts of all ages and nationalities.
ART Now, three years down the line and Saunders is back with an even bigger showcase of urban contemporary art from artists including Goldie, Alec Monopoly, Liliwenn, David Walker, Chu, George Morton-Clark, Xenz, Kid Acne, Ben Allen and Ben Slow, amongst many, many others.
Once again this year, live painting will play a crucial part in the event with Inkie, Zeus and Fin Dac forming part of that team.
The collective of more than 20 artists will be exhibiting their work at  AtzarĂł from the 8th til 20th of August, offering collectors the opportunity to purchase their desired pieces. On the night itself, buyers will also have the opportunity to partake in the silent auction.
Prices range from 150€ - 10,000€.
MUSIC Providing this year’s soundtrack, welcome back DANSETTE JUNIOR, whose debut appearance at Urban in Ibiza in 2010 had the crowd quite literally begging for more. The brainchild of singer/producer/songwriter Will Hunt, Dansette Junior have certainly been working it since their last performance at Urban In Ibiza, with a huge number of summer festival performances under their belt, as well as being highlighted as XFM’s Eddy Temple- Morris’ favourite band of 2010.
Also on the bill, it’s CARPETFACE + AUDIBLE, a hip-hop-happening duo from UK, who come armed with a refreshingly upbeat and entertaining mc/beatbox/scratching/live looping and percussion set over original backing tracks. Old School or No School!
On the decks- hang on to your sun-hats- headliner ARTHUR BAKER, best known for his work with the Godfather of HipHop himself, Afrika Bambaataa and New Wave meets electronica legends, New Order, will be making one of his only Ibiza appearances this summer.  He’ll be joined by DJ Samir, Yuniq, Shovell + Twizzy so dancing shoes are most definitely advised…
FASHION Making the al fresco runway in the beautiful grounds of AtzarĂł look even more than gorgeous, FELDER + FELDER bring their latest collection to the island for its debut outing in Ibiza. The London based fashion label by twin sisters Daniela and Annette Felder has developed a cult following in a matter of only a few years, with a signature style a feminine rock and roll aesthetic, which was quickly embraced by singers and actresses, including Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Florence and the Machine and Allison Mosshart.
Added to that, Urban in Ibiza is pleased to bring SASHA MOON back to its catwalk to present her latest collection. If last year is anything to go by, expect style and sexiness with a side order of sass…
THE PROMOTER Commenting on the overall event, bossman Dizzy Saunders said that “In a typical Urban in Ibiza move, what we’ve done for 2011 is to bring back the best from last year and add in some super new elements to the event. We want to show both sides of the coin, the established artists and not so established.. the art exhibition this year is really looking good right now; we have a list of artists that quite honestly, it would be hard to beat. And that goes for the music as well as the art; a legend like Arthur Baker playing alongside a new talent like Twizzy? Bring it on…”.

Now Then and Mind On Fire Showcase at Dulcimer Manchester

Now Then Manchester teams up with Mind On Fire to showcase live music from DANNY DRIVE THRU, DAYSE & AVER and VIEKA.

Local arts and music blog Now Then Manchester will continue its monthly stint at Chorlton-cum-Hardy’s Dulcimer bar on Thursday 11th August by collaborating with promoters-turned-record label Mind On Fire.

Soul and hip hop influenced producer Danny Drive Thru is the event’s headliner, neatly coinciding with his new 7” single release via Mind On Fire Recordings. Two tracks, ‘Psychedelia Smith’ and ‘Violence Makes’ are featured on vinyl available for the first time on the night, but the live performance promises anything from an eclectic array of samples, clips and synthetic beats.

Joining Danny Drive Thru will be Dayse & Aver, a pairing formed as a splinter group from Manchester hip hop collective The Natural Curriculum, and Vieka, a trip hop act whose electronic sampling orchestra moulds succinctly with unwavering percussive rhythms.

WWW.MINDONFIRE.CO.UK is home to a new wave of forward thinking Mancunian music, made available via a series of vinyl recordings and free digital EPs for those of you with an inquisitive ear.

Mind On Fire aims to bring inventive and often overlooked Mancunian music to a wider audience. The website features tracks from a wide variety of Mancunian musicians and producers all doing their own thing. Unrestrained by genre, MOF features artists from Hip Hop to Alt Rock, Jazz and Funk to Electronica. Genre is of no importance, but the quality is consistent.

Now Then Manchester's events at Dulcimer (Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, M21 0AE) operate on a pay-what-you-like basis in order to maintain access for all while encouraging discovery of and support for local arts & music. Dulcimer is a stone’s throw away from the new tram service from Manchester to Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

‘It’s so exciting to think that the city’s second ever official Liverpool Pride festival is just days away.  I am really glad to see that the challenges we have faced have led to the event growing and diversifying, ensuring that there really will be something for everyone in this year’s festival. It’s incredible to think that we could be in the top 5 biggest Pride’s in the UK in only our second year. I can’t wait to see the Waterfront and the Gay Quarter come to life with colour, music and fun once more. This Saturday is going to be such a special day for the whole community and we want everyone to enjoy it no matter what your sexuality. We wish everyone who comes along safe and happy Liverpool Pride 2011

Cllr Steve Radford, Chairman of the Liverpool Gay Business Association said:
On 6th August everyone is welcome to join Liverpool Pride festivities! The LGBT communities are ourselves diverse and will bring different and contrasting styles to contribute to the day. However one message that we all want to make loud and clear is that prejudice and hatred has no place in our great city.  Liverpool is a city that celebrates diversity and values all our residents and wishes to see everyone aspire to the best of their abilities. Yes we in the LGBT communities have suffered in the past and yes we still no doubt face challenges, but these challenges we face together and with confidence in both ourselves and our city. We hope to see you all on this magnificent day!
