Musicians Pay Tribute To Record Label Boss Alan Wills

Musicians Pay Tribute To Record Label Boss Alan Wills

British musicians Miles Kane, David Mccabe and James Skelly have paid tribute to record label founder Alan Wills, who died on Sunday night (11May14).

The Deltasonic Records creator was left critically ill after suffering serious head injuries in a cycling accident last week (ends09May14), and he died of his injuries in hospital. He was 52.

Now musicians who have worked with Wills paid their respects to the man who helped kickstart their career.

Kane, whose band The Rascals was first signed to Deltasonic, has tweeted: "RIP Alan Wills such sad news he made me believe in my dreams and gave me my first break and that I'll never forget big love to the family!"

The Zutons frontman MCCabe adds, "You gave me my first and only record deal and you where (sic) the best person to have around to learn from Rip Alan (willsy) Wills all my love."

The Coral's Skelly adds, "Alan was a true and loyal friend. I am gutted."
Wills performed as a drummer for Liverpool, England bands Shack and Top before focusing on finding new talent as a record company boss.

Tragedy Return to Decimate the UK in May 2012

Tragedy Return to Decimate the UK in May 2012

Tickets available from ticketweb.co.uk or 0844 477 2000

Monday 23rd January 2012; Tragedy: All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees (and Beyond!)* are back in the UK in support of their new album ‘Humbled By Our Greatness’. Playing O2 Academy venues in Newcastle, Sheffield, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Oxford, London (Islington) and Scotland’s O2 ABC Glasgow in May 2012, Tragedy’s explosive live show is world famous.
Hailing from New York City, Tragedy first came to decimate the people of the United Kingdom in 2008, as the support band for British cult rockers The Wildhearts. At the end of that tour, Tragedy supported Electric Six at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, during which 2,500 kids moshed to Stayin' Alive, and after which, Tragedy totally scored a whole new UK tour with Electric Six!
Since that time, Tragedy has kept on returning to the UK to force their magic upon the unsuspecting peoples of said country, including but not limited to opening for Motorhead at Guilfest, and two headline tours all across the UK, this May 2012 being their fourth tour (there was a third headlining tour somewhere in there too, but all records have been lost!)
Anyway, Tragedy is back in the UK with a new record called ‘Humbled by Our Greatness’. They have extended the Bee Gees catalogue to include other period pieces, such as Xanadu. It's really awesome, you should totally check them out!

Tribute band Guns and Roses to Rock The Dome Liverpool

This month on November 25th the Dome Grand Central opens its doors to the greatest Guns N’ Roses tribute you are ever going to see.

Guns & Roses are made up of five of the biggest Guns N’ Roses fanatics, handpicked from other well established GnR’s tribute acts to create a super-group and the ultimate tribute to these rebels of rock.

Formed in early 2011, Guns & Roses promise to create the closest tribute both in sound and image to the original band. Taking on the role of the iconic Axl Rose is the outstanding JDOG, former Guns4Hire member, whose voice and look bares an uncanny resemblance to the front man. Stepping in to the shoes of one of the most celebrated rock guitarists of all time is CJ, whose dedication to Slash and his epic guitar playing has seen him perfect those infamous solos with all the skill of Slash himself. This ex Guns2Roses is a seasoned professional whose talent has lead him to perform across the UK, Europe and the USA. Performing as Duff in this exceptional tribute act is Superhans who can sing and play Duffs songs with an unparalleled accuracy. On rhythm guitar for the band and performing in the role of Izzy is the multi-talented Stevie who has previously played across Europe with G2R as Duff. Completing the line-up is JC. An outstanding musician, he plays the drums with all the power and skill of Steve Adler and ties together the whole band to bring you the unique sound of the original Guns N’ Roses.

The band will be performing all of GnR’s classic songs including Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child o’ Mine and November Rain. As one of the most celebrated and well loved rock bands of the last 20 years, Guns ‘N Roses have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Their debut album, Appetite for Destruction reached number 1 on the US Album Chart and sold in excess of 28 million albums worldwide.

The 1200 capacity live performance venue, situated in Grand Central on Renshaw Street provides the perfect setting for the full live band with the huge organ installed in 1907 acting as an impressive and unique back drop behind the main stage. The Smiths Indeed - Liverpools Stanley Theatre October 28th

                  The Smiths Indeed
Who will be performing The Queen is Dead in it’s entirety to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album’s release

"A brilliant tribute to The Smiths" (i-D Magazine)

If, in the Autumn of 1982, you were a pair of budding young songwriters and performers about to unleash a series of wounding pop songs about sexual attraction and solitude upon an unsuspecting Britain and were surrounded by bands with names like Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ed Banger & The Nosebleeds and Slaughter and the Dogs, is it a surprise that your retort would be a name such as The Smiths?

Between October 1982, when The Smiths performed their first gig supporting Blue Rondo A La Turk at the Ritz in Manchester, and the release of their seminal album The Queen is Dead in June 1986, that same pair of songwriters, Morrissey and Marr, in conjunction with Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce, had written, recorded and performed a series of brilliantly illuminating pop songs that gave hope to a generation struggling to guide its way through the morass of a grey, turgid Britain blighted by the Falklands war, the Miners strike and Margaret Thatcher.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary since release of The Queen is Dead the album will be performed in its entirety by The Smiths Indeed, who reproduce with uncanny accuracy, the energy and the pomp and ceremony of The Smiths during this period of the 1980’s. The Smiths Indeed have been performing since 2005 and developed a rapturous following of their own amongst the notoriously hard to please hardcore Smiths fans both old and new. Due to an increasing demand for their incredible ability to reproduce the atmosphere of a Smiths show, The Smiths Indeed will be moving their performance into larger venues, enabling them to incorporate a more sophisticated concert containing state of the art lighting and video content without losing the feel of a 1980’s gig.

The Smiths Indeed will perform The Queen is Dead and a Greatest Hits set at the following venues on the dates listed below:

Friday 28th October – Liverpool University’s Stanley Theatre, Liverpool £13.50
Saturday 29th October – Academy, Sheffield £13.50
Thursday 3rd November – King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow £12.50
Friday 4th November – Doghouse, Dundee £10.00
Saturday 5th November – The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen £12.50
Thursday 10th November – HMV Institute, Birmingham £13.50
Friday 11th November – The Old Fire Station, Bournemouth £13.50
Saturday 12th November – Academy, Oxford £13.50
 Thursday 17th November – Garage, London £13.50
Friday 18th November – Komedia, Brighton £13.50
Saturday 19th November – Academy, Leicester £13.50
