Kendal Calling 2014 Festival Sells Out

Kendal Calling 2014 Festival Sells Out In Record Time

Kendal Calling festival has sold out a remarkable 11 weeks in advance of this year’s festival.  Kendal Calling has sold out in each of its previous 8 years but this year’s sell out is the quickest yet, leaving the From The Fields team to thank those festival goers who have snapped up tickets to the winner of the UK Festival Awards Best Medium Sized Festival in 2013.

This year’s festival features act such as Suede, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, Example, De La Soul, 2manydjs, Frightened Rabbit, Clean Bandit, Happy Mondays, Miles Kane, Jimi Goodwin, Gorgon City, Ella Eyre and hundreds of others over 3 days in the stunning Lake District, indisputably one of the most beautiful festival sites in the world.

Kendal Calling is one of the highlights of the festival calendar featuring the Kendal Calling Goes Beyond The Stars fancy dress theme, Tim Peaks Diner, a real ale festival, gourmet food, a dedicated children’s Ladybird Arena, a diverse array or markets, the Garden Of Eden healing area, Q and A’s, talks and much more.

Having broken the world record for the most people dressed as Superman in one place in 2014, this year Kendal Calling revelers will attempt to break the world record for the most people moonwalking at the same time.

Kendal Calling promoter Andy Smith comments - "We've sold out in record time...I'm in a transport of delight!"

Musicians Pay Tribute To Record Label Boss Alan Wills

Musicians Pay Tribute To Record Label Boss Alan Wills

British musicians Miles Kane, David Mccabe and James Skelly have paid tribute to record label founder Alan Wills, who died on Sunday night (11May14).

The Deltasonic Records creator was left critically ill after suffering serious head injuries in a cycling accident last week (ends09May14), and he died of his injuries in hospital. He was 52.

Now musicians who have worked with Wills paid their respects to the man who helped kickstart their career.

Kane, whose band The Rascals was first signed to Deltasonic, has tweeted: "RIP Alan Wills such sad news he made me believe in my dreams and gave me my first break and that I'll never forget big love to the family!"

The Zutons frontman MCCabe adds, "You gave me my first and only record deal and you where (sic) the best person to have around to learn from Rip Alan (willsy) Wills all my love."

The Coral's Skelly adds, "Alan was a true and loyal friend. I am gutted."
Wills performed as a drummer for Liverpool, England bands Shack and Top before focusing on finding new talent as a record company boss.

Kendal Calling 2014 First Wave Of Acts Announced

Kendal Calling 2014 First Wave Of Acts Announced

Kendal Calling 2014 First Wave Of Acts Announced

FESTIVAL DATES: FRIDAY 1st  – SUNDAY 3rd AUGUST 2014
Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe, The Lake District

Kendal Calling returns for a 9th action packed year with a whole host of incredible artists confirmed for the Lake District festival.  Not content with winning more awards (Best Medium Sized Festival at the UK Festival Awards) and breaking world records (most people dressed as Superman in one place – 867 since you’re asking!) the Kendal Calling team have surpassed themselves with the first wave of acts to be announced for 2014.

2014’s first headliner Suede are one of the most revered British bands of the last 25 years with Brett Anderson and co racking up a host of much lauded indie singles and albums. After a hiatus the band returned in 2010 and released the critically and commercially acclaimed album ‘Bloodsports’ in 2013.  This is a band once again riding on the crest of wave and the first headliner to be announced with more due to follow imminently.

Frank Turner’s anthemic folk-punk has seen him rise to become one of the country’s biggest musical artists of the last few years, accruing a large and devoted following and placing him firmly at the forefront of the new guitar renaissance in the UK.  His five albums have given him an enviable body of work and Frank Turner is undoubtedly one of the most powerful live performers around. Frank has a real love affair with Kendal Calling having played twice before and has risen through the ranks to secure a well-deserved and much requested headline slot with his band The Sleeping Souls.

The much anticipated Hip Hop Legends slot this year goes to hip hop pioneers De La Soul. This slot is as much a part of Kendal Calling folklore as the fancy dress theme and the Real Ale tent and after last year’s blistering performance by Public Enemy the From The Fields team are delighted to have secured a more laid back performance from the daisy age, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ legends who celebrate 25 years in the game in 2014.

Miles Kane is a man noted as much for his sharp suits and dress sense as his angular music and lyrics and this most modern of pop stars will make the short journey from Liverpool to the lakes.

Happy Mondays are Madchester royalty and in frontman Shaun Ryder possess and unlikely national treasure.  Their set will be a hugely anticipated affair as fans gather to hear seminal baggy anthems such as ‘Step On’, ‘Kinky Afro’, ‘Hallelujah’ and a host more as the Mondays baggy swagger engulfs the Lake District.

The Glow Tent is a haven for lovers of the very best in electronic music and the line-up for 2014 is the best yet.  David and Stephen Dewaele are famous worldwide as both Soulwax and 2manydjs who's album "As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 1" completely revolutionized the dance music landscape in the early 2000s, for its imaginative mixture of artist and genres from all eras. 2manydj’s are widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative acts on the planet and their mash up mayhem will have Kendal Calling in raptures.

Other confirmed acts include RAM Records founder and drum and bass don Andy C, Radio 1’s new music head honcho Zane Lowe, electro duo and local heroes Bondax with and all-star cast of b2b sessions, Metalheadz royalty Goldie, MJ Cole and a host of other swashbuckling turntable evangelists.

Other confirmations include Razorlight with their arsenal of alternative anthems, Brits Critics Choice winner and keyboard pounding singer songwriter Tom Odell and recent number 1 singles acts and electronic collective Clean Bandit who are one of the most exciting breakthrough acts in the UK right now.  Newton Faulkner’s unique, percussive guitar playing and emotive songs are sure to provide one of the weekend’s biggest sing-alongs while Gorgon City get ready for your love and bring their booty shaking bass to the Lakes.

Other exciting acts confirmed to perform include indie stalwarts Athlete, breakthrough indie rockers Breton, Rudimental collaborator Ella Eyre, undefinable musical guru and champion tea drinker Mr Scruff.  Many more acts have been confirmed to play with hundreds more set to join them in August in arguably the most beautiful festival site in the UK.

Kendal Calling festival is renowned for its expansive cultural offering presenting a smorgasbord of artsy treats for festival goers.  With some amazing musical artists providing sustenance for the soul, the arts programme offers some welcome nourishment for the mind and body as an eclectic array of performance art, comedy and spoken word takes place over the weekend in the stunning surrounds of the Lake District.  With gourmet food, a real ale festival and the dedicated children’s Ladybird Arena as part of the mix, Kendal Calling is one of the UK’s best festivals and outstanding value at just £119 for the weekend.

This year’s fancy dress theme is Kendal Calling Goes Beyond The Stars as the festival once again becomes a mecca for culture vultures and party people.

NEW for 2014 for Thursday night revellers, Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club take over featuring a hand picked line up by Craig himself. Thursday will feature Chai Wallah’s and the Real Ale festival will be open for pre festival shenanigans!

Mike Hughes new single That Girl Is…) Misery and UK tour with Miles Kane

Mike Hughes new single That Girl Is…) Misery and UK tour with Miles Kane

Mike Hughes new single That Girl Is…) Misery and UK tour with Miles Kane

South Yorkshire troubadour Mike Hughes has announced the release of his new single ‘(That Girl Is…) Misery’ on October 7th 2013, coinciding with a full UK tour as support to Miles Kane.

Abound with classic folk and Americana influences, Mike’s classic singer-songwriter style showcases a range and talent that is creating much early excitement and rapidly marking Mike Hughes out as a ‘one to watch’ this year.

Just a handful of live performances over the past year have led to Mike winning avid supporters that include producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, MIA, The Kills) and Miles Kane, who invited Mike to support him on his upcoming tour.

Following sessions recorded earlier in the year with Phil Anderson that helped sculpt the sound of Mike Hughes, Ross Orton then took Mike into his studio in early 2013 to put the first set of tracks down. Two members of Miles Kane’s band, George Moran and Jay Sharrock, also feature on the recordings and now make up an integral part of the Mike Hughes band.

The first release from those sessions with Ross Orton will be the new single ‘(That Girl Is…) Misery’, a track that dives into a thumping Americana anti-ballad, with Mike’s soaring, earnest vocals taking centre-stage. The added instrumentation from Mike’s band also take the new track into bolder territory, adding an influence that at points wouldn’t feel out of place in a Tarantino movie. A sound perhaps best described as ‘Apocalyptic Gospel Blues’.

Mike Hughes will head out as support to Miles Kane on his Autumn tour this September, before heading back into the studio to continue working on his full-length debut album, due out in 2014.

‘That Girl Is…) Misery’ is released on October 7th 2013 and will be available from all good digital outlets.

Professor Green November headline tour 2013 announced

Following his highly anticipated set on Glastonbury’s Main Stage at the weekend; PROFESSOR GREEN has announced a massive headline tour for November culminating with a show at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

Firmly established as one of the crossover superstars of British music who has always remained true to his roots in rap, PROFESSOR GREEN builds on a career which has spawned two Top 3 albums and eight consecutive Top 40 singles – including the massive hits ‘Read All About It’ (#1), ‘I Need You Tonight’ (#3) and ‘Just Be Good To Green’ (#5) – with the release of the brand new single ‘ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH?’ on JULY 22ND through Virgin EMI Records.

Featuring vocals from Last Shadow Puppet and solo singer-songwriter Miles Kane, ‘ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH?’ is the first single to be taken from PROFESSOR GREEN’S upcoming third album ‘GROWING UP IN PUBLIC’ which will be released on OCTOBER 14TH. The new releases look set to add another incredible chapter to Pro’s all-conquering career which has already accumulated 500,000 album and 1.75 million single sales in the UK alone.

South London’s Palma Violets emerged from nowhere in 2012 to become one of the most hyped and exciting new bands in a decade, and after a few shows in their basement and fewer on the road, they’ve proved that they’re worth it. Singles ‘Best of Friends’ and ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ are taken from the band’s forthcoming album, which is currently being recorded with Pulp bassist Steve Mackey.

Taking the prestigious NME Awards Tour opening slot are Birmingham’s Peace. The band gained high praise for clever, confident and ambitious debut EP Delicious, and have recently toured with Manic Street Preachers and The Mystery Jets. The band’s brand new single ‘Wraith’ is released on Columbia Records on 13 January.

NME editor, Mike Williams says: “2012 has been an incredible year for music, and 2013 promises to be even better, not least for Django Django, Miles Kane, Palma Violets and Peace, the four amazing bands heading up the NME Awards Tour 2013. This is undoubtedly one of the strongest and most exciting bills we’ve ever put together, and I can’t wait for it all to get started!”

UK TOUR + MILES KANE UK TOUR + NOEL GALLAGHER'S HIGH FLYING BIRDS SUPPORT
New Manchester based six piece FOLKS have released a free download of a track called ‘Avalanche’ and start their own headlining UK tour this week before they go on tour with Miles Kane in October and support Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds at the Roundhouse in London in October.  The band will also appear on Radio 2 this weekend (Saturday 10th September) when Noel takes over Dermot O’Leary’s show between 3pm – 6pm and will perform two songs.
Bringing together classic song writing with emotive vocals and irresistible melodies, Folks make music to be listened to and enjoyed over and over.  The band were formed when guitarist and writer Michael Beasley hooked up with vocalist Scott Anderson, and they relocated to the US to record what would end up being their debut album, to be released early 2012.    On their return the duo pulled together a full band (Thom Fripp – lead guitar, Harry Gumery – bass, Wil Akroyd - keyboards and Elliot Barlow –drums) which ensured this group could also let rip live.  They kept themselves busy in a rehearsal studio, out of the way, letting the tunes evolve into another side of Folks – one with absolute precision playing and amazing stage energy.
‘Avalanche’ is available for free now via  www.facebook.com/wearefolks
