The Landed new single, She, debut E.P.

The Landed to release new single, She ahead of debut E.P.

The Landed (from Colchester, Essex) make classic, heart-on-sleeve, hooks by the bucket load, air-punching guitar pop. The kind of songs you write when you’ve grown up loving all the right records.

The result can be heard on The Landed’s debut EP which combines the new wave edge of The Police with Fleetwood Mac’s sense of melody, the harmonic home-grown feel of Noah And The Whale with the symphonic rock of ELO.

These songs have already attracted the ear of Tom Robinson at 6 Music. And standout track Taking You Out was made BBC Introducing Track of the Week by Huw Stephens at Radio 1.

Born too late for Top of the Pops, these songs sound destined to play out over the credits of teen TV dramas. The Landed play guitar driven pop hits for the Shazam generation.

The new single is called She and is released May 25th 2015. (you can listen to it below)

Liverpudlian Rosenblume releases All Through The Fire, All Through The Rain

Rosenblume All Through The Fire, All Through The Rain

Liverpudlian Rosenblume releases All Through The Fire, All Through The Rain

Liverpudlian troubadour Rosenblume has announced details of his first official EP release:  'All Through The Fire, All Through The Rain’.

Taking its name from the stirring eponymous track "All The Fire, All Through The Rain", the EP comes as a labour of love from singer-songwriter Daniel 'Rosenblume' Ross after nearly two committed years in the making.

Inspired by the folk greats of Greenwich Village, Laurel Canyon and beyond, this confident debut release displays Rosenblume's penchant for songs wrought with passion and emotion, breathing new life into an art of writing long forgotten.

The EP's titular track and lead single "All Through The Fire, All Through The Rain" opens up this sepia sewn collection, Rosenblume's honeyed vocals flowing over delicate Stephen Fretwell-styled acoustica in this ode to loyalty and devotion, channelling the subtle, catchy melodies the likes of Damien Rice, John Mayer and even Paolo Nutini would be proud of.

Speaking about its personal subject matter Rosenblume revealed:

"Through life’s challenges, I think it’s human nature to fight for something or for someone you would consider yourself loyal or devoted to. We all have dreams and ambitions...Through every obstacle and challenge (or through thick and thin as the saying goes) I’ll still be here. I felt this in particular summed up the themes of the EP. "

Despite being written in August 2014 and being the last track in which to be penned for the record, it didn't take long for Rosenblume to realise the striking track's place as a mainstay on the release. Award-winning producer Tony Draper (Justice Collective, Natalie McCool, Kalandra, Mike Crossey) then took the helm on the mixing desk in 2015 to finish the EP.

'All Through The Fire, All through the Rain' EP will be officially released on 27th April 2015, available digitally from all online stores and stream sites. Catch him at Live dates below.

Sleep Inertia set to release debut E.P. Growth, Decay, Transformation

Metal band Sleep Inertia are set to release their debut 5-track EP, “Growth, Decay, Transformation” on 20th March 2015

Formed from the demise of The Dead Lay Waiting, SLEEP INERTIA are set to release their debut EP on the 20th March. For the uninitiated, The Dead Lay Waiting released two albums between 2010 - 2012, securing numerous key festival appearances and live dates across Europe and eventually earning nominations for Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards, as well as Best Underground Band by Metal Hammer!.

The bands second album featured  narrator Barry Clayton; voice behind the introduction to heavy-metal band Iron Maiden's album Number of the Beast (1982) and the album artwork was voted #18 by Kerrang Radio as best album cover.  In 2013 TDLW launched their Comic Booklet at the MCM Expo Comic Con.  However due to circumstances out of the band's control, newer material which had been recorded in Barbados was never released, taking its toll on the band ultimately causing the band to split up.

SLEEP INERTIA
Featuring ex-TDLW members Ben Connett (lead guitar), Steve Franklin (rhythm guitar), Sam Sara (bass guitar) and Tom Shrimpton (drums) plus new frontman Jamie Harrison, SLEEP INERTIA are quickly earning themselves a reputation within the music scene. SLEEP INERTIA’s debut 5-Track EP “Growth, Decay, Transformation” is exactly what you would expect from a band of this genre; a progressive-edged sound with complex and fresh riffs which promises to firmly re-establish the band with audiences both old and new.

Steve Franklin (Guitarist) - “The new sound we've achieved is a massive improvement from what we were doing as The Dead Lay Waiting. Not only is the production level a huge step up but we've matured immensely as musicians and we’re really pleased with the end product. We’ve already finished some newer material which we’ll be playing on our forthcoming tour”.

Birmingham Indie band The Assist release new track In Your Ear

Birmingham Indie band The Assist In Your Ear

Birmingham Indie band The Assist release new track In Your Ear

THE ASSIST are an Indie/Alternative/Britpop quartet from Walsall, formed in 2013, and comprised of Mikey Stanton (vocals), Jak Baker (bass), Ryan Stanton (guitar), and Ben Faulkner (drums).

The music is energetic and unpredictable, with angular, edgy guitar riffs, funky bass lines and punchy drums; littered with infectious melodies, unexpected tempo changes, and anthemic, sing-along choruses. The songs are honest, filled with bravado, and inspired by everyday scenarios. It’s music that speaks for itself; that anyone can identify with.

Guitarist Ryan Stanton said, “We’re more defined by a sound which shows our strengths as players, and all the songs are built in line with that sound. The guitar takes a rhythmic role, while the bass lines are very forceful and insistent; it carries a lot of energy. We use a lot of tempo changes in the songs, it keeps things interesting and unpredictable, and audiences have really responded to that.

The band has made a significant impact on the live scene, performing in major cities all over the UK, from Blackpool to London, including headline shows in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Manchester, as well as support slots with Steve Craddock (Ocean Colour Scene), Reverend and The Makers, Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Dexters and Slade.

They’re no strangers to the festival circuit either, performing the main stage at the Strawberry Fields Festival, with such luminaries as The Twang, Goldie Lookin’ Chain, and Ocean Colour Scene; and at the Forever Sun Festival with the Happy Mondays and the Buzzcocks. Their quality as players and their ability to generate excitement in an audience has earned them a reputation as a formable live act.

Bassist Jak Baker said, “We’ve really honed our live show. It’s fast and energetic, and it really gets the crowd going. That’s where we’re at our best. We’ve been lucky enough to play alongside some great bands, both old and new, and we feel we’ve proven ourselves as a live act.”

They have also performed at the top of Blackpool Tower for HMV’s VIP Christmas party in 2013 and 2014; Blackpool Rocks 2014, alongside The 1975, Swim Deep, and Disclosure; Villa Park for Aston Villa's Official Kit Launch; and at the opening of Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green shop in Birmingham.

Drummer Ben Faulkner said, “The songs come from a very honest and sincere place. We write about what we know, what we experience every day. That’s probably one of the reasons our music has had such an impact.”

Radio coverage has also brought the band wider attention, with prominent airplay on indie and alternative stations, such as XFM, Amazing Radio, and Smash Radio, and 6 songs aired on BBC ‘Introducing…’ WM. In addition to this, their live acoustic session for BBC ‘Introducing...’ WM was highlighted as one of the best of 2014.

They’ve turned a few heads in the press and media, too, who haven’t been shy with their praises, with noteworthy features and reviews in Counteract Magazine, Brum Notes, Impact Birmingham, Deadly Music and Independent Music News, among others. XFM called them "Birmingham's Next Big Thing".

Vocalist Mikey Stanton said, “We’ve had a modest amount of press and media interest, and it’s all been very positive. It’s good to know that our music has found an audience and has been so well-received. The reviews have all been complimentary. It’s very flattering.

The band has achieved notable success in a relatively a short time. Their self-titled single, ‘The Assist’ – described by Deadly Music as “slowly building indie pop with a serious swagger” – was produced by Richard Wood and recorded at the Old Smithy in Worcester (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest). On its release in October 2013, the single broke into made it into the iTunes Alternative chart, peaking at #116.

Their debut EP, ‘Speak It Aloud’, produced and recorded at Dovecote Studios in Great Wyrley, was released in March 2014. Within a week, the EP also dented the 200 iTunes Alternative chart, this time reaching #129. The EP garnered a host of reviews, all too eager to sing their praises, with Deadly Music suggesting it was a sign of “great things to come”, and Mesmerize Music adding “songs full of youthful charisma and energetic tales of young life”. Reviewers were also keen to single out EP title track “Speak It Aloud” and “Control” as notable highlights.

They have also recorded at Monochrome Productions under the helm of producer Tom Gittins (The Lines, Tyler Mae, Lauren Wright).

The Assist’s music is available via iTunes and all major digital retailers.

Publisher debut EP Empty Hands

Publisher to release debut EP Empty Hands

Publisher’s [aka Arno Blok] debut EP, Empty Hands consists of 4 tracks shaped by open mic jams, pub gigs and the artist’s experience working for a taxi company in his native Rotterdam. And the release is infused with a sparkle of inspiration gained his move to Edinburgh in the summer of 2013, prompted by a visit to the Fringe.

Cementing the Dutch-Scottish entente, is a special gig at the city’s Banshee Labyrinth on November 26. It sees Publisher surreally cinematic compositions complemented on a bill which also includes catchy acoustic tune smiths Mad Tango and rootsy country blues act The Rising Souls.

Moving from Rotterdam to Edinburgh for creative inspiration has been the one of the best decisions Arno ever made. Beautiful sceneries, challenging hills for his no gears typical Dutch bicycle and supportive new friends have brought him to the end of this exciting chapter. But hopefully also the start of a much bigger and even more exciting one.

As a treat for the attendants there will be traditional Dutch syrup biscuits ‘stroopwafels’ for everyone at the EP launch.

Chicago born Jack Kovacs to release debut EP The State Line

Chicago Jack Kovacs debut EP The State Line

Chicago born Jack Kovacs to release debut EP The State Line

Chicago born Jack Kovacs is a force to be reckoned with on his debut EP "The State Line," due out on October 21st, 2014. A Los Angeles transplant, Jack left the City of Broad Shoulders for the City of Angeles to study guitar performance at the University of Southern California. It was in the midst of musical learning and discovery that his world was opened up to the art of songwriting, forever changing the course of his dreams. His breathtaking, cinematic stories come to life with an experimental edge that makes beautiful use of arrangement and dynamics, effortlessly pulling inspiration from the singer/songwriters of the1970's and today. With Jack counting his influences among iconic artists like Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell, as well as Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver; it's easy to understand where the emotional sensibilities originate from. Self produced alongside Tim Kobza, his 2014 release, "The State Line" is full of layered harmonies and present storytelling, designed to connect to the heart and soul of each and every listener.

From the first note, opening track "State Line" is incandescently reminiscent. A song that was inspired by Jack's courage to leave behind everything he knew to follow a dream, you can feel the timidity and uncertainty echoing from each guitar riff and subtle vocal turn. The song is about "the unexpected journey that life sometimes calls you into, in spite of promises you made or visions of your own future," and Jack captures that perfectly. Not to mention the combination of vocalist Huxlee's soaring and soft voice, which collides in perfect cohesion with Jack's warm and personal style, brings the listener that much closer to the music. The playful "Jenny" is an almost autobiographical look into the process of falling in love. The rich and layered arrangement give breath to the youthful and giddy emotions often associated with puppy love, and as the song grows and expands, so does the depth of the feelings.  A toe tapping rhythmic intimacy and rolling piano build a full scale exploration of the journey, concluding with an epic collision of guitars and drums.

On the harrowingly cryptic "The Empty House," Jack dives deep into the pool of cinematic music. Pulled from the emotional aspects of loss, horror and tragedy, the track inspires a pall of dread with the layers of vocals. Male and female voices (provided by Huxlee, who sings throughout the EP) intertwine together in quiet reverie, while Jack’s hypnotic guitar playing underscores their tale. The lyrics give only the sparest details to invoke a sense of mystery and fear. There's a hauntingly intriguing pull to the song that wraps around the listener, leaving them riveted to the conclusion. The sparse "At Sea" allows the drifting wanderer to find solace in the light of the sun. Of the song itself, Jack says "… the end of the song's journey is not in finding the shores of purpose and meaning, but rather exploring the great nothing with that beautiful light, and the space that is left for dreaming." Recorded with just a microphone, a guitar, and his own voice, it remains a track based entirely in storytelling as it exposes the root of it's creation. Beautiful and languid, it gives hope and shelter to all those seeking their own path. The beautiful opening vocals on "Song of the Summer," which also serves as the EP's first single, allow you to feel those quiet summer days of the past echoing through the guitar riffs and building, expansive chorus. It boarders on the new, woodsier trend in indie rock, though still captures the 1970's feel of carefree abandon that is fluent in so much of Jack's music. The track stands as an ode to all of those summer time anthems from your youth, and the memories that immediately attach themselves to the melody when you hear it.

Big Sixes release debut E.P. The Idles

Big Sixes debut E.P. The Idles

Big Sixes release debut E.P. The Idles

Big Sixes are Charlie Costello, Charles Bush and Toby Taylor. The band was born in a box room in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, where no old plate had any less than three cigarettes put out on it, no part of the carpet went un-littered and no neighbor ever bothered complaining after the first couple of times. United by a dislike of most things and a lack of interest in the UK 'guitar music' scene, they knew more about the type of band they didn't want to be than the type of band they did want to be.

After a year of putting out free downloads, directing their own music videos and playing raucous DIY shows to a strong local following, the band self-released two singles ‘Swallowing Flies’ and ‘The Hunter’, the latter received air play from BBC Radio 1 and lead to the band joining Red Light Management and the Easy Life imprint at Sony Music.

Big Sixes are driven by a shared ideology of doing whatever you want and cultivating your creativity by any means. That expressing oneself is more important than being 'cool. That a font type is equally important as a guitar tone. That t-shirts hold a lot more purpose than just a way to get fed on tour. That anyone with paint can be a painter, anyone with a camera can be a photographer and that anyone with a guitar can be a songwriter.

The band today announces their debut EP, The Idles, to be released through Easy Life / Sony RED on December 1st, available for pre-order here: http://smarturl.it/bigsixesidles

Lead track ‘Heaven Sent’ premiered as Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’ this week and the video launches today. The band will also play a run of headline shows later this year, tickets on sale today.

Coronation Ball release new single Electric Blue

CORONATION BALL is formed of Dominic Scott (guitar/lead vocal), Jessica Watson (keys/violin/vocals), Harry Pearce (bass/vocals), Jake Thomas (guitar) and Joe Lyon (drums/percussion).  The Tunbridge Wells based quintet are set to release their eagerly anticipated debut EP ‘Electric Blue’ on November 17th 2014.

Lead single from the EP ‘I Feel Fine’ is a striking slice of indie-pop, which is due to be released on 3rd November 2014. Sixties blues inspired bass lines are overlaid with swelling guitars and intricate percussive beats to provide the perfect backdrop to Dominic’s distinctive and agile vocal, which soars emotionally over the crescendo of the chorus. In Dominic’s own words:

“‘I Feel Fine’ is the track on the EP when all the tension comes to a head, it’s a song about two people really going for each other “I don’t trust you, that’s enough for me, I’d be better off dead than with you”’

The band cites Phil Spector and Pink Floyd as major influences, alongside The Ronnettes, The Beatles, Ben E. King and Kanye West.

Brighton The DuBarrys Lilly

Brighton band The DuBarrys release new track Lilly

Brighton band The DuBarrys have recently released a stunning 70's rock influenced track 'Undress Your Soul' taken from their forthcoming debut EP. The track, featuring a pop undercurrent and catchy melody leaves a mark on all those who listen.

Now the four-piece have treated us to the second song from the four-track EP. ‘Lilly’ is as addictive as it is stunning, with hazy vintage-led visuals, that leave us wanting more. An Indie Pop/Rock track, which causes an instant recall, immediately after watching.
Their debut EP promises to bring more; ambient melodies are teamed with indie-pop vocals and reverb-soaked guitars; The DuBarrys are set to ensnare your ears, and make their mark.

Support for the band has already come from BBC Radio 6, and XFM with comparisons to indie tastemakers of recent years, Alt-J and Local Natives. Other mutual influences come in the form of Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Tame Impala and more recently Mac Demarco, with elements from each harnessed to create a sound and style unique to The DuBarrys; a refreshing change from today's EDM driven scene.

Having previously supported King Charles and with performances at the Isle of Wight Festival, under their belt, The DuBarrys have already cemented themselves as an incredible, engaging live act. Chich, Rax, Alex and Dylan are a four piece, masquerading as a trio, with their drummer choosing not to take the limelight; however still playing a firm role in their music making.

Hotly tipped for 2015, keep an eye on these boys.

Brighton Of Empires debut E.P. Stranger Sensations

Brighton based four piece Of Empires to release debut E.P. Stranger Sensations

Of Empires, a Brighton based four piece are about to release their debut EP 'Stranger Sensations' on 30th September.

In a relatively short period time together as a band, Brighton based four piece, Of Empires, have already demonstrated their gusto through vibrant live performances across the UK whilst more recently receiving repeated national airplay of their track 'Gimme What I Need' across the BBC Introducing network.

The group of relative unknowns are set to release their debut EP aptly titled 'Stranger Sensations', on 30th September. The three-track EP has all the components that define the bands live sound – booming drums, luring vocal hooks and psychedelic guitar riffs reminiscent of bands like Jefferson Airplane. The influence of early rock ‘n’ roll is the basis of the bands sound, with traces of The Doors and early Rolling Stones to name a few, but with a necessary subtlety that is full of modern influences.

Sydney Jagged Jayne new single Avalanche

Sydney band Jagged Jayne release new single Avalanche

Jagged Jayne emerged in September last year as an energetic and oh so quirky six piece. They explore sounds from a haze of musical influences and develop an infectious vibe on stage. The group all met at Sydney’s Australian Institute of Music and are made up of ‘The Brads’ on drums and bass, Jake on electric guitar, Chris on keys, James on trumpet and Simone on Lead vocals.

In just under a year Jagged Jayne have played alongside great artists such as Dappled Cities, TigerLily, Nina Las Vegas and headlined in brilliant venues along the East Coast such as Sydney, Byron Bay, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

On July 4th Jagged Jayne released their debut EP to a sold out audience at FBi Social in Kings Cross. The bands single ‘Avalanche’ was recorded at The Sonic Factory Studios by recording engineer and producer Nathaniel Sherwood.

The song was written only a month before recording began but the band believed it needed to be track one of the EP. ‘Avalanche’ is an indie track that explores unique grooves and melodic lines that showcase the Jagged Jayne sound.

For fans of artists such as KIMBRA, Half Moon Run and Of Monsters and Men this is a track that you will really connect to.

Look for Jagged Jayne this September rocking it at The Captain Cook Hotel and later this year in Melbourne town.

"Sydney band Jagged Jayne combines groovy funk licks with epic female vocals to come up with their own unique sound." Megan Cipollini

Familiar Creatures release debut E.P.

Familiar Creatures debut E.P.

Familiar Creatures release debut E.P.

Since forming in 2012, Familiar Creatures have developed an authentic, consistent and cohesive sound. And it’s there to hear on their debut EP – released on 9th June 2014. It’s a sincere, joyous record made up of five of their best-loved tracks – and speaks of everything from marital breakdowns to the comfort of music. It’s a magical set of tunes, by a group who clearly enjoy making interesting, popular music.

Everyone loves the trumpet. But no other band uses it quite like Familiar Creatures. Solo trumpetess, Jessie Barnard, and Irish singer/songwriter Brian Kelly create a unique sound and atmosphere – unlike anything you’ve heard before. It’s a combination that’s landed them festival slots across the British Isles and has won them instant critical acclaim.

The band got together in 2012, due to a beautiful twist of fate: "I'd just moved to London, from Berlin" Brian explains "I was coming home from work one day when I heard this gorgeous trumpet line spilling out of a building on my street. It was amazing. So I went straight up to the door and kept knocking until Jessie answered. And that was that."

The pair didn’t waste any time and soon added drums, bass and lead guitar to the line-up. Familiar Creatures found plenty of common ground and inspiration in the music of Paul Simon, Dr John and Fela Kuti; in roots artists like Midnight and Steel Pulse; traditional song-smiths like Leadbelly and Luke Kelly; as well as in indie groups like The Smiths and Manic Street Preachers; and even Michael Jackson. Brian says: “We all wanted to create something that sounded fresh and interesting, something melodic but unpredictable”.

Asked how she would describe Familiar Creatures' sound, Jessie replies, "It's too hard. What I can say is, that when you see us live, Dan and Arwyn on drums and bass are going to make you dance; Brian's lyrics will get you thinking; and I’m going to do my best to get a beautiful trumpet fanfare stuck in your head.
