Liverpool Pride Tickets On Sale This Friday

Following the recent announcement that Liverpool Pride 2014 will now be a part ticketed event, organisers have confirmed that tickets for this year’s festival on Saturday 2 August will go on sale on Friday 23 May at 10am and with a limited number of early bird tickets on sale at just £5.

This year marks the 5th anniversary for Liverpool Pride, which was established in 2010 and takes place each year to coincide with the date of murdered gay teenager Michael Causer 6 years ago. The theme for this year’s event is Glam Fairy Tales, with those attending encouraged to come dressed in their most wild and wonderful interpretations of the theme.

The main ticketed sites have also been confirmed and Liverpool Pride will be returning with their popular festival sites, with the Waterfront Stage at the Pier Head, where attendees can soak up the music and atmosphere of the main stage area, alongside a number of bars, food outlets and market stalls, the Stanley Street Stage in Liverpool’s thriving Gay Quarter, which will showcase up and coming talent alongside entertainment provided by the bars and venues of Stanley Street and Dale Street and finally the Garlands and Gbar Stage in the Eberle Street area with guest DJ’s and a huge open area to dance the day and night away.

There is plenty of free family friendly activity too with the Liverpool Pride March through the city centre streets which kicks off the day in celebratory style at 12pm from the Plateau at St George’s Hall. Organisers encourage as many groups, organisations and individuals to participate, entertainment and activities are also planned for the muster at St Georges Hall. Also at the Pier Head is a free non-ticketed area which will contain a community stage, food concessions, cafe, market, information stalls, community activities and children’s entertainment.

As the main staged areas are now ticketed, Liverpool Pride 2014 promises the biggest and best year yet. Ticket prices have been kept to a minimum and cost as little as £5 for early bird bookers and the LGBT community is encouraged to book fast to get the best possible deal on tickets. The decision to ticket the event was not taken lightly, first and foremost it is to ensure the event will take place this year as well as safeguarding sustainability, the organisers aim to attract bigger name artists and performers, and also to improve safety and facilities at what will become the largest single-day Pride event in the UK.

Lucy Day, Chair of Liverpool Pride Charity said: “Liverpool Pride is a campaign for LGBT equality and to raise awareness of hate crime which many members of the LGBT community face on a daily basis. The free march through Liverpool City Centre will be followed up by a big celebration of LGBT culture in the heart of Liverpool and the LGBT community. Whilst increased costs and scarcity of funding have meant that we’re unable to offer a totally free event this year, we have ensured it is an affordable and sustainable event, if attenders book now they can get tickets as little as £5, we do have sections of the site that are totally free and we encourage everyone to take part and enjoy”.

Liverpool Pride are also looking for an army of volunteers who will be proud to assist the events team, over 200 people are needed in roles ranging from March Stewards, General Stewards, Bucket Shakers to name but a few.  If you are interested in taking part and helping this much-loved event run as smoothly as possible you can register online at www.liverpoolpride.co.uk/volunteer or contact James Licence, Volunteer and Fundraising Co-ordinator at james.licence@liverpoolpride.co.uk.

The line-up of acts for Liverpool Pride 2014 will be announced in the near future, as will a programme of film and fringe events.

With the changes ahead, expect Liverpool Pride 2014 to be the biggest and best event yet!

Ticket Prices: Limited 3000 Early Bird tickets at £5, Advanced Tickets £8 and £11 entry on the day. (No booking Fees, a handling charge may apply of £2.25 per transaction)

For tickets go to www.liverpoolpride.co.uk or call the Liverpool Pride Ticket Hotline on 0844 8000 509. Tickets also available in person at TicketQuarter, Queen Square, Liverpool.

Competition - WIN a Pair of tickets to see Johnette Napolitano

Competition - WIN a Pair of tickets to see Johnette Napolitano

Competition - WIN a Pair of tickets to see Johnette Napolitano

In April Johnette Napolitano, the charismatic singer/songwriter/ founder of Concrete Blonde, will make her first visit to the UK in nearly a decade, performing a series of acoustic shows that will feature songs from her entire career and showcasing her incredible voice.

Concrete Blonde came howling out the chute in 1986 and knocked out three classic albums by 1990: Concrete Blonde, Free and Bloodletting. The latter begat the hit single “Joey” – a sobbing love song to a dying alcoholic – perfect rock balladry and here is the video for “Joey”  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdpTcvSn8HQ

Napolitano was born in Hollywood – the belly of the beast – and her songs were (and remain) cinematic – feature films compressed into three-minute rock ‘n’ roll: “Still In Hollywood,” “God Is A Bullet,” “True.” Walking In London, Mexican Moon, and a collaboration with Chicano punk-rockers Los Illegals followed. “Ghost Of A Texas Ladies Man” and “Heal It Up” – among others -- hail from that period. She is also one of the great song interpreters of our time, as proven by the way she turned James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” , Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows” and Coldplay’s “The Scientist” into Johnette songs.

The 21st Century brought the gorgeous, solo album Scarred, various Concrete Blonde reunions and her book Rough Mix – a collection of short stories, lyrics and drawings. She’s now touring on her own – just an acoustic guitar and her songs, passages read from Rough Mix against projected backdrops of original and found art – and that voice.

This will be a long awaited chance for UK fans to see a truly inspiring artist deliver heartfelt versions of some amazing songs in an intimate environment. Something not to be missed.

MICK FLANNERY will be support on the dates.https://www.facebook.com/mick.flannery.musician

And YOU can win a pair of tickets for EACH  of the 4 shows below

This September Rebel Bingo returns to London after a few months travelling the world recruiting new members to their cult. They’re only back for two nights before they head off again so if you need a fix go to www.rebelbingo.com for tickets and info.

This is not bingo. It’s Rebel Bingo. It’s a mutant form of bingo some friends invented by accident when they were drunk one night. It’s loud and emotional. The old school bingo community don’t approve. But the rebels don’t care. They’re crazy like that.

It’s hard to explain what happens at Rebel Bingo. It’s a party. There’s a stage show, DJs, dancing  and drinking. And you play Rebel Bingo. And you can win stuff. So, if you like music, dancing, playing, laughing and maybe winning stuff go join them. Just don’t tell your nan. She won’t like you experimenting with Rebel Bingo.

The music policy is eclectic. Expect punk rock, indie, old school hip hop, garage, 00s stuff, 90s stuff, 80s stuff. Anything really.

Cambridge Folk Festival

Cambridge Folk Festival - 2013 tickets on sale NOW

After weeks of rain, summer finally arrived at the other greatest show on earth this weekend, with thousands enjoying this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival.

Sunday afternoon’s hailstorm did nothing to dampen everyone’s spirits at the end of four days of otherwise fantastic weather and the very best in folk. Legends including Clannad, June Tabor and Oysterband, and Nanci Griffith thrilled audiences with their performances, while a new generation of cutting edge young artists, including Charlene Soraia, King Charles and Jake Bugg made their mark on the Festival’s massively popular emerging talent stages. The Festival has showcased many rising artists over the years at the very start of their careers, including Newton Faulkner, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, Seth Lakeman, Noah and The Whale and this year was no different with acts like The Staves, Lucy Ward, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Rachel Sermanni.

One of the country’s best loved and most outspoken songwriters, Billy Bragg played a unique set on the Festival’s opening night on Thursday, celebrating the 100th birthday of legendary political folk and blues singer Woody Guthrie. Other weekend highlights among so many included: a stirring and haunting performance from the Unthank sisters, their exquisite blend of traditional and modern folk complemented by a stunning performance from Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band; a rousing Saturday night closing set from The Proclaimers; a surprise appearance from Green Wing and Episodes actor, Stephen Mangan presenting a guitar workshop with Martin Simpson and on Sunday blistering performances from one of the greatest forces in African music Angelique Kidjo and Festival favourite Seth Lakeman plus an emotionally charged return to the stage after 30 years for legendary folk artist, Nic Jones.

With the exception of Friday day tickets (Olympic Opening Ceremony night) all tickets for the Festival completely sold out. The Festival was broadcast live on Sky Arts across the weekend.

Festival Marketing Manager Neil Jones said: ‘2012 has been a fantastic year for the UK and appropriately also a fabulous year for the Cambridge Folk Festival. In a sumnmer that has seen atrocious weather for many UK Festivals we were blessed with mainly beautiful conditions and we are delighted to have sold out all Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Weekend Tickets. Tickets are now on sale for 2013.'

Tickets for the 2013 Cambridge Folk Festival are availble from midday on Monday 30 July via www.cambridgefolkfestival.co.uk

As purveyors of the UK’s maddest city and sporting a smorgasbord of musical and festival delights, BoomTown Fair 2012 has now sold over 90% of their tickets! The mega fete rolls into town over the weekend of 9th – 12th August, at the Matterly Estate in Winchester showcasing a pick ‘n’ mix line-up of the very best names in ska, dub, reggae and bass-heavy beats. The bill this year includes; Reel Big Fish, Caravan Palace, The Skatalites, Beenie Man, Alborosie, Tanya Stephens, Natty, Gappy Ranks, David Rodigan, plus many more, as well as some of the most inventive and ingenious interactive site art, sculptures and sets to be seen on the festival circuit, including the exclusive ultimate full-show from Arcadia Spectacular!

With so many of the BoomTown residents having already snapped up their ticket to the annual fair, even with the increased capacity there are now less than 10% of tickets available! All potential attendees are urged to get a wriggle on to ensure they get their hands on one of the remaining tickets for the hottest and craziest Fair in the land!

Due to last year’s overcrowding, caused by the pesky pixies jumping the fences and gate-crashers, the Town Mayor has had to make some serious decisions to ensure BoomTown can continue next year. New provisions have been made to make it nearly impossible to get in without a valid ticket including: Extending the fence perimeter (meaning no forests and undergrowth to commando roll through or trees to hide behind); increased height of the perimeter fence; the new security team presence outside and surrounding roads will be tripled from last year and there is a brand spanking new wristband system implemented to eliminate pass-backs and fraud!

For those who do get their hands on tickets there are a number of excellent new additions to make 2012 a more luxurious and stress free experience... Kicking off with the BoominStyles Banquet, BoomTown’s very own festival fine dining experience! Take a break from the surrounding madness by walking off the wild streets of BoomTown into a haven of calm and civility, to be greeted with a chilled glass of bubbly and waited on hand and foot by glamorous waiting staff! For more details and to dribble over the full menu, head to the website: http://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/posts/view/boominstyles-banquet-menu-is-now-ready

Another addition this year for all the Fair’s residents will be the Lockerhouse. On hand 24 hours a day to make sure you can keep your belongings safe, the lockers also have mobile phone charging facilities so you can power up whilst keeping it safely tucked up next to your camera, wallet or car keys! For full details and more information please visit: http://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/page/lockers

The big-hearted BoomTown council are not content with merely plotting and planning luxury, security and mayhem for this year’s fair, they have gone a step further for your listening pleasure and created Radio BoomTown!  The radio station is the first stop for the very best in ska, ska-punk, reggae, roots, gypsy and just plain havin' it party music!  For more info and to tune and treat your ears, head on over: http://www.radioboomtown.co.uk/

With over 90% of tickets sold, BoomTown are down to a limited amount of tier five tickets and will be sold out completely in the next few weeks!! Please note; all teen, campervan and caravan tickets are also completely sold out! So jump on in whilst you still can, limited amount of tickets are available via the website:  www.BoomTownfair.co.uk

Liverpool Sound City 2013

Liverpool Sound City 2013 dates announced AND early bird tickes on sale tomorrow

LSC 2013 will take place from 2nd – 4th May 2013

Early Bird tickets on sale tomorrow

The final chord has rung out, the feedback has stopped howling and the last exhausted, happy punters have left the venues, bars and wide open spaces of Liverpool Sound City 2012 with their ears ringing and their minds blown.

Highlights of LSC 2012 included Nelson George and Arthur Baker discussing how creative communities grow and evolve, Andrew Mains and Eamonn Forde on the power of mobile technology and Gered Mankowitz and Craig Pennington on the past, present and future of music photography at convention.

Other stand-outs at The Hilton included packed panels on new tech, music discovery and the new record labels as well as the highly successful launch of the LSC Roundtable sessions - where our delegates from 23 countries discussed, debated and networked to their hearts content.

Elsewhere, Sound City Expo got off to a flying start with 42 exhibitors showcasing the best in new tech and music services, while our inaugural Match Day, tailored by Umbro, brought Kicking + Screening football film festival, the John Peel World Cup (well done to 80s Casuals for winning it) and even a table football tournament together as one main event.
And by night The Temper Trap, Django Django, Alt-J, Ghostpoet, White Denim, Death In Vegas, Pond, Michael Kiwanuka, James Vincent McMorrow, Alkaline Trio, Kids in Glass Houses and more all played across the city to a legion of rabid music fans and industry.

But if you missed these stand-out performances - or you were there and you’re just plain thirsty for more - don’t fret. On Friday May 25th at 10am a limited number of Early Bird wristbands for 2013 go on sale at £20. If you picked up one of these Early Birds last year, you must be feeling pretty pleased with yourself right now and if you didn’t, now’s your chance to invest in some future smugness as we announce over the coming months the acts, bands, performers and artists that will make up next year’s LSC.

Tangerine Dream Tickets Competition - Shepherds Bush Empire

Tangerine Dream

Competition - Win a pair of Tangerine Dream Tickets - Shepherds Bush Empire

Fore-fathers of the German synth rock sound and one of the most influential bands in the genre, the seven-times Grammy nominated pioneers of electronic music take their audience on a psychedelic journey through sight and sound. A legendary instrumental prog rock band characterised by the use of high-end modern technology next to a strong rock'n'roll identity and the pioneers of Krautrock, Tangerine Dream are hard to pigeonhole into any music category. Many have unsuccessfully tried to emulate their trademark sound, but no one could quite nail the secret ingredient of their unique recipe; the way musical layers are structured and finely glued together results in an indescribable musical experience which has always kept them one step ahead of any fashionable trend.

And we are giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets for their Shepherds Bush Empire gig on Sunday 24th June

All you have to is answer the following question.
Can you name one of the PAST members of Tangerine Dream?

Email your answer to us at musicmafiauk@gmail.com

Winners will be chosen at random. Competition closes on 15/6/12
